      St Mawes

      August 29, 2020 in England ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

We went on a 20k walk from the site stopping off at Portscatho to buy the Saturday Paper. The shop was tiny and the queue to get in long so it took 20 minutes all in all. We followed the SW Coast Path southward all along the Roseland Peninsular to St Anthony's Head. Towan Beach was getting busy with people enjoying the sporadic sunshine and the surf. The path took us above the lighthouse at St Antony's Head, then we continued northwards to face St Mawes across the harbour. We resisted the temptation to catch the ferry to St Mawes, where we could catch a bus from Place, and continued on the inland path to return to base. We stopped at the NT cafe above Town Beach for a well deserved icecream and sticky flapjack.
From there back to the site four miles to our north. Karen had a blister from the walk the previous Sunday to Salcombe which gave her a lot of grief over this section.

      St Mawes

      August 30, 2020 in England ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

We cycled to St Mawes in the morning - a beautiful sunny day - and caught the pedestrian ferry to Falmouth across Carrick Roads.
Falmouth was quite busy on the Bank Holiday - we wandered along the main street then climbed Jacobs Ladder to view the estuary from the high ground. We carried to Pendennis Castle where we enjoyed our picnic prior to having a short tour around the second world war batteries and the old Tudor keep. Both short tours were interesting and the views from the old Tudor keep were far reaching.Read more
