Angekommen im Hotel - The Lodge

    May 29, 2018 in the United Kingdom ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

    January 10, 2018 in the United Kingdom ⋅ ⛅ 8 °C

    Leaving for Heathrow

    October 13, 2019 in the United Kingdom ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

It was great spending the evening with Jessica, Chris, Toby and Lorna last night. Thanks and apologies to Toby and Lorna for the early start.

At least it’s dry and still. The underground is surprisingly busy for 7:15 on a Sunday morning. We were expecting a carriage to ourselves but there were very few seats free and it filled as we travelled closer to Earls Court. We guess they were travelling to a half marathon as someone had a number on their shirt saying that. Lots of trainers! Bun tells me I mustn’t take a picture down the carriage 😞Read more

    Around Wimbledon Village

    July 19, 2019 in the United Kingdom ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Didn’t get much of a chance this time to meander around the Wimbledon Village area. We were pleasantly surprised to find that there are adequate crossing points for pedestrians and even for horses - which would presumably also permit children piggy-backed on Poppys to cross without stepping down and getting their little feet wet. There were plenty of places to eat and shop, as well as a train station with connections to central London. Last but not least, we noted the soon-to-be-opened restaurant, megan’s, that we shall surely have to try out next time we’re in this neck of the woods.Read more

    London Wandering

    March 31, 2017 in the United Kingdom ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

I was up early on my first day in London (time keeps shifting around!) so I decided to walk to my first booked activity. I had read about the free Sky Garden and had luckily seen it early enough to book a time slot for late morning. Mr Google told me the walk was about 80 minutes and it went close to Buckingham Palace and then around a waterfront walk by the Thames.

It was a lovely fresh spring day and just perfect for exploring. The palace was very impressive and wasn't crowded that early in the day. I then made my way through the picturesque St James Park where the spring flowers were starting to bloom all around.

Nearby Trafalgar square was chaotic and busy as I think everyone was trying to get to work! I loved seeing all the names of the streets so familiar after playing Monopoly. My walk then veered off to a path along the lovely embankment park by the river. I passed by the Savoy, which had only been my second choice of Hotel!. I passed the "border" to the city of London guarded by some Lion Statues and finally reached the impressive building housing the Sky Garden. I'll post a separate footprint for my time there.

I next headed for the other side of the Thames, braving the underground to save time and my feet, before walking over a foot and rail bridge to where the London Eye sat dominating the skyline. I had fast track tickets to avoid the large queue of tourist waiting in the very warm sun (getting a better summer in London). There will be a separate footprint for this stop too.

After a nice lunch in the park, bought from the huge range of prepared food in a local Tesco's, I headed to Covent Gardens and wandered around exploring the area. By now it was about 6:00pm and I had exceeded 20,000 steps, so I found a bus to my Hotel and called it a day with a takeaway burger and a glass of wine for dinner.

    Fahrt nach Wandsworth Common

    November 1, 2016 in the United Kingdom ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

Read more

    Wandsworth Common

    November 1, 2016 in the United Kingdom ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

    Four Days in London

    October 30, 2017 in the United Kingdom ⋅ ☀️ 11 °C

In the cab on the way to Gatwick airport to leave for Spain.
During the last four days we have been to Camden Markets, walked across London Bridge, Tower Bridge, saw the London Eye up close. Didn’t buy a ticket as the line to board was way too long. Strolled through and did a little shopping at Covert Garden. Went to a theatre to see Kinky Boots. The show was fantastic. I think I was the only one in our group that didn’t have a power nap during the show.Read more
