Clam Beach Ponds

On this trip, I am hoping to learn about how I can have an influence on people even as a leader with less experience or “seniority.” I think in many cases people can let their lack of experience shut them down as a leader completely. Of course, with less experience can come less respect but there are still ways to earn that respect. As a freshman on this trip, I hope to learn when might be a good time for me to speak up and when might not be the best time. I am fully ready to admit that I do not know everything, especially not as such a young member of the team, and with that comes learning how well your peers will listen to you. While home in Kansas, I have noticed that the team is very open to listening to all members of the team, regardless of experience or age. I’m sure the listening skills will translate to being out in the Redwoods as well and I look forward to the different perspectives everyone will bring from their own experiences. I know camping will be a different experience for me as I have never camped in a tent before, but I have been camping in a trailer. I also know that I lack experience in such large cities like San Francisco. The largest cities I have been in are Boise, the capital of Idaho, and Kansas City and neither of those cities compare to San Francisco.Read more
