🇬🇧 We once again wake up early, this time at 7:00 am. It rained all night, and we slept in the tent. Now the tent is very wet, and we have to pack it up, which isn't a pleasant task since it makes us wet and dirty in the process. After a quick shower and some coffee from the camp stove, we're on our way! Our destination today: a place called Lost Lake.
We need to kill some time because we can only check in at our Airbnb in Portland at 3:00 pm. So, the challenging 1.3-hour drive through narrow mountain roads fits well into our schedule. When we arrive at the lake, we're confronted with a fee booth. They want to charge us $15 for parking at the lake! We find this unreasonable since we're trying to budget, and besides, that's the cost of four good coffees from a coffee shop! We Europeans, known for our love of walking, decide to park on the street before the lake and walk the rest of the way.
After a 10-minute walk, we reach the lake and start exploring. A huge, clear blue lake is surrounded by tall pine trees and mountains. Right in the middle of the lake stands Mount Hood with its white pointed summit.
What we really appreciate here is that in the recreation areas, there are beautiful large wooden benches and tables, each with its own small steel grill. You can barbecue by the lake with your family or friends and enjoy the view of the mountain. It must be fantastic here in the summer. We also spot a small chipmunk sitting at the lake's edge, grooming itself.
After circling about half of the lake, we turn around and, on the way back, spot a typical gray squirrel. It doesn't seem to be shy, and Felix tries to photograph it. When he attempts to get closer, it runs away and scolds us quite excitedly. We have a good laugh since the sounds it makes are really peculiar. 😄Read more
Traveler I see myself with a shop there. 🤣
