      Hello Red River Gorge

      October 20, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 9 °C

Hello climbing paradise, hello Red River Gorge 💛
      * beautiful coloured woods
      * perfectly shaped sandstone with pockets, crimps, jugs, steeep to slightly overhanged walls, endurance or bouldery routes.. You find them all..
      * goodbye Walmart hello Miguel's Pizza campground. Very simple but cheap climbers camping (how we like lit 😉). Altough on the weekend the camping seems to be a festival. Way too many people. You have to fight for your parking spot 😅
      * havent tasted the famous Miguel's Pizza yet. We are waiting for a special ocasion because otherwise we would probably eat a pizza everyday = 💸and the trip would soon be over 😂
      * our van is great but not made for parking at climbing sectors. most of the time we have to park before the climbers parking lots which means more walking and sometimes even paying 10$ to leave the van on a private parking. We also made the painful experience (💸) that even if you pay for the parking youre not safe from towing. You can imagine how fun it was to arrive at the parking at 8pm tired, hungry and your van is not there anymore 🤬 so here an advice for everybody: never write your license plate # on a post it and put it inside the envelope, always write it ON the enevelope itself!!!
      * otherwise we enjoy climbing and people and leki his dog friends and squirrels

      Bye Bye Red River Gorge

      December 6, 2022 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 14 °C

We were struggling to decide when to leave the Red, so the weather decided for us. Rain and condensation left all the walls damp. Many rainy days ahead, means time to move on to our next destination.
The rain didn't let us to finish our project and we had to leave them undone. Probably only one more day was needed for both of us - sooo close!! But thats rock climbing and there will be many more routes to come on our trip 🤗

      These six weeks here were a truly climb🧗 - eat🥙 - celebrate with new and old friends🎉  - sleep 😴 - repeat🔁 fest.

Thanks to everyone who shared moments here with us. We came here in search of good climbing, but also to make connections and create nice memories. See you somewhere down on the road!

      Red River Gorge (Kentucky)

      September 22, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

We are no sport climbers. Everyone knows that. However, every once in a while we go to sport climbing crags and test if suddenly a hunger for the exposure of a long route has grown inside us. So far without much success.
Red River Gorge is really famous, maybe one of the most famous climbing areas in the world. Pictures and videos we have seen of the area made us curious, so we intentionally packed our harnesses and belaying equipment when preparing for the flight to the US.
Lucia and Noah, two of Birte's friends from Ann Arbor moved there two years ago and invited us to climb and stay with them. We gladly accepted the offer and had a great climbing day with them after spending a night at Miguel's Pizza, which we had to visit at least for a night! Miguel's is known all over the US. In every crag, be it sport climbing or bouldering, you'll find climbers with Miguel's Pizza shirts. It is the american pendant to Magic Wood, but way bigger...and way cheaper!
The rock is bulletproof sandstone as everywhere in the Appalachians. And the climbing is really fun. The holds range from crimps over slopers to jugs. Some of the climbing is very technical, other routes are mostly physical. There are short boudery routes and long endurance beasts that cover 50 meters or more.
As expected we were not very strong mentally while climbing and had trouble committing to moves above the third or fourth quickdraw, but we still had a lot of fun! The climbing was better than anywhere we have climbed before. We could really imagine doing that more often. But RRG is not around the corner...

On Saturday evening a huge party took place at Miguel's. It was the 40th anniversary! There was live music, free pizza and free beer. After our long climbing day, the crew around Lucia and Noah, Ciarand, Danny and Jonah, and we grabbed one of the very last parking lots in the vicinity of Miguel's and rewarded ourselves with pizza and beer. The vibe was great!

      Red River Gorge Scenic Byway

      June 10, 2021 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 77 °F

After service yesterday, a friend met me in Louisville and we rode to Lexington. In the rain. I'm really tired of rain.

We checked into the Bikes, Bourbon & Bluegrass HOG Rally at Man O' War HD, and I ran into some people I met at the Texas and Arkansas rallies. Really nice.

This morning we've risked the rain to make a run down the Red River Gorge, and I got my 13th 50 Rides, 1 Nation photo 😁. No rain so far today. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

So long [for now], and thanks for all the fish! ✌️

      Day 82 mileage: 212.8 (total 18521.8)
HD Dealership Challenge: 1 (total 125)
      50 Rides, 1 Nation: 1 (total 13)
