    • 9/11 Memorial

      November 14, 2023 in the United States ⋅ 🌬 11 °C

I visited the South Tower several times, both on business and to the observation deck on the top floor. It was sobering to visit the memorial which consists of two square fountains showing the footprints of the towers, with all the victims names engraved around. The water flows down into square ‘bottomless’ holes, meant to represent life eternal.

The trees in the garden each represent a fire officer who was killed in the disaster.

The ‘survivors tree’ is the only original tree from the concourse. Strangely, it has leaves on it before, and loses its leaves after, all the other trees.

The original golden ball sculpture that stood between the two towers can also be seen, unrepaired, on a platform nearby.

The white winged building is meant to represent a dove of peace. If September 11th is sunny, the sun hits the centre of the ‘dove’ at the exact time the first plane hit.
