Exploring Cam Thanh Coconut Village

I started my day early in the morning with a trip to Cam Thanh Coconut Village, also known as the Water Coconut Forest. This village is a short 15-minute drive from Hoi An, but it feels like a world away. As soon as I arrived, I hopped into a traditional Vietnamese basket boat, called a thung chai, and drifted into the mangrove forests. The boat ride was both peaceful and exhilarating, as the local guides performed tricks with the boats, spinning them around in circles while singing traditional Vietnamese songs. It was such a fun and unique experience!

The village is famous for its water coconut trees, which stretch as far as the eye can see. As I navigated the waterways, I saw locals casting nets and fishing in the rivers. My guide explained that this region was once a hideout for soldiers during the Vietnam War due to its dense foliage and hidden waterways. The tour was interactive as well—I got to try fishing with the locals and learned how to weave hats from coconut leaves. It was the perfect way to start the day, surrounded by the tranquility of nature and learning about the history and daily life in the village.
