It is possible to catch a high speed ferry across the Rio de la Plata to Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay. This quaint town is actually one of the oldest settlements in South America. It provides a very welcome contrast to the hustle and bustle of Buenos Aires.

We spent the day wandering its quiet tree lined streets and enjoying the tranquil surroundings. This is a place that I would love to spend more time in (and I did return here in 2018 to have a better look at the place).もっと詳しく

After an amazing time in South America, it was time to start the long journey back to Australia. I don't think that anyone actually looks forward to a marathon 16 hour flight, but this one did have a surprise highlight. Mid way through the flight. I was able to open the window and look down on the massive expanse of white floating ice surrounding Antarctica. I have always wanted to travel to Antarctica, maybe this would be as close as I will ever get.
