    Arrived in Hobart around 11am and picked up our hiace 12 seater van from the airport, then headed into town to sort out Sims for our phones. Got into our accommodation around 3pm.

  • Bruny Island

    February 12 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 22 °C

    Headed over to Bruny Island for the day. You can only get there by the vehicle ferry.
    Bruny Island is about 360sq km in size, divided by a narrow, sandy isthmus known as the Neck, which is one of its key attractions.
    It is a food lovers paradise, with all its produce grown and made on the island. Beer, wine, whiskey, chocolate ,cheese, honey, oysters, salmon, and the list goes on.

  • Mount Wellington

    Once we got back from our day on Bruny Island, we decided a trip up Mt Wellington would finish the day off nicely. And we weren't disappointed in the decision!! More 👌 moments.
    Mount Wellington lies directly behind Hobart and is the city's dominant feature. It is 1,270 meters high and was formed during the Permian, Triassic, and Jurassic ages.Read more

  • Port Arthur and Unzoo

    Big day today, 97km drive to Port Arthur, and on the way, we stopped at Unzoo.
    PORT ARTHUR
    A brutal penal colony located on the Tasman Peninsula, Port Arthur, was home for many of Australia's early convicts.
    UNZOO
    The "wildlife without cages" Tasmanian Devil Unzoo is a global leader in shaping the way zoos can evolve in the 21st century.
    The bush animals are wild and come and go as they wish. There are no boundary fences, cages, or aviaries.

  • MONA.... museum of old and new art

    Spent the morning at the MONA Museum. A very strange and unusual place.
    Described by its owner David Walsh as a “subversive adult Disneyland”, MONA is Australia's largest private museum and one of the most controversial private collections of modern art and antiquities in the world..David Walsh, the owner, made his fortune by developing a gambling system used to bet on horse racing and other sports.

  • Spring Beach & Maria Island

    From our accommodation we get a very beautiful view of Maria island. Maria Island has had a mixed history, including two convict eras, two industrial eras, a farming era, and finally becoming the national park that it is today.Read more

  • Bicheno

    With its fishing port, Bicheno is a magnet for seafood lovers. And plenty more natural wonders await bushwalkers just a short drive away at Douglas-Apsley National Park and Freycinet National Park

  • St Helens / Bay of Fires

    We spent 2 nights here. St Helens is the largest town on the north-east coast of Tasmania, on Georges Bay. It is known as the game fishing capital of Tasmania and is also renowned for its oysters. It is located on the Tasman Highway, about 160 km east of Tasmania's second largest city, Launceston.Read more

  • St Columbia Falls

    February 20 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

    St. Columba Falls is one of Tasmania's tallest waterfalls, with a waterfall drop of over 90 meters. Situated approximately 30km's west of St. Helens, with easy access from the A3 Highway, with a turn off to Pyengana, St. Columba Falls is one of Tasmania's favourite waterfalls to visit. Just a shame the day we went there wasn't a lot of water.Read more

  • Launceston and Day Trips

    We arrived at our Launceston accommodation, and we were blowen away with the property and proximity to town, so we decided to stay 4 nights instead of 2 and will travel from here and do day trips. Our day trips included the Grindelwald Village, Latrobe, and Devonport. On the way back to Launceston from Devonport, we had a tyre blowout.Read more

  • Launceston to George Bay and Low Head

    Late start this morning as we didn't want to drive anywhere without a spare tyre after the day befores blowout. After ringing Hertz, we were told to take the van out to the Launceston airport, and they would swap the van for another, as no one is open on a Sunday to replace the tyre in Launceston.Read more

  • Road Trip from Launceston to Hobart

    Left Launceston and started our trip back to Hobart today. We had plenty of stops along the way, visiting some beautiful little towns and learning about their history. Arrived in Hobart late afternoon, unpacked the van, and moved into our apartment. Then, we walked to the Salamanca area for tea.Read more

  • Last 2 days in Hobart

    After a horrible night in our accommodation, we made the decision to move out. Luckily, we got a refund for the 2 nights we didn't stay.
    Took a drive out to Glenorchy to do a bit of shopping. Then, we decided to play a card driving game called getting lost, which took us to places we would have never seen.Read more

  • Hastings Caves State Reserve

    Last day today and we all agreed that this was the highlight of our trip. This was definitely a WOW moment.
    We drove approximately 125km south of Hobart to reach the cave.
    The inside temp was 9deg, and there were about 500 steps in the cave.
    Newdegate Cave is the largest dolomite tourist cave in Australia. Its vast chambers began to form more than 40 million years ago.

  • 2nd Day in Fort Worth @ Stockyards

    Full day wandering around the stockyards in Fort Worth. If you want cowboys and the true Western experience, this is the place to come.

    The Fort Worth Stockyards is a National Historic District that was once the largest livestock market in the United States. It was established in 1887 when local businessmen chartered the Union Stock Yards to handle the growing cattle trade. The Stockyards reached its peak in 1944 when it processed over 5 million head of livestock. However, the decline of the railroad and the rise of the trucking industry led to a decrease in business at the Stockyards, and it eventually closed in 1971. Today, the Stockyards is a popular tourist destination that hosts the world's only twice-daily cattle drive.Read more
