Yesterday we drove the hour to Vincente Perez Gonzales National Park to Ponohue for the Mirador La Picada hike which took one partially up the Osorno volcano and along beside Logos Todos dos Santos. The hike was billed as having good views of the lake which it did and good views of the volcanoes which it didn't afford because the volcano was shrouded in cloud. The hike was on black volcanic sand so it was a little tougher than normal hiking. The hike was a loop so we were able to hike back along the shore of the lake. Very pretty with snow covered mountains in the background. It looked a little alpine but it didn't. Initially I though that there was no development on the lake but as we got back closer to Ponohue, I realized that some of the lake property was outside of the park and had cabins. It wasn't too developed.

We were quite tired after the hike but stopped at some waterfalls about 10 minutes drive from where we had parked the car. The waterfalls were pretty good but what was great was the views of the volcano Osnoro. The clouds had cleared and we could get great pictures of us with the waterfalls in the foreground and the volcano in the background. We didn't need to walk around for 4 hours in the volcanic sand.
