    We saved the best for last. Forty-five minutes east of our condo was the southern entrance to the strangely beautiful Joshua Tree National Park. Two deserts come together in this 800,000 acre park. The eastern section is the Sonoran Desert and is the "low desert", below 3,000 feet elevation. We selected a 4.8 km hike to Mastodon Peak with an elevation of 3,371 feet. The trail is marked with stones as it would be very easy to wander off and get lost in this unforgiving desert.Read more
