    Swooped from Winnipeg to Kelowna

    7 juni 2019, Kanada ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

After several weeks of planning, Linda and I boarded our noon Swoop flight to Kelowna for an amazing return fare of $119. The flight was smooth but the three male flight attendants were obvious rookies so they were entertaining to watch. On arrival at the Kelowna Airport we picked up our rental car and were happy to be upgraded to a black, sporty Toyota Camry. Traffic was heavy and slow going through the city. Once we were on the highway we encountered wet flurries around Merritt on the Coquihalla and scattered rain showers for the first two hours. Our view of the beautiful Rocky Mountains was mainly shrouded by low cloud cover. The speed limit was 120 kmh and drivers exceeded that. When first responders whizzed by us I knew that someone had likely crashed. We made it to the Abbotsford Airport by 5:30 where we had arranged to pick up Nancy. After a quick border crossing we were on our way south, arriving at Oak Harbour on Whidby Island, WA at 8 pm. On our way to a late dinner Nancy and I had a very unpleasant encounter with a massive amount of up-chuck in the hotel hallway and reported it to the front desk clerk. It definitely spoiled our appetite for the Mexican meal we had for dinner :(. (On check-out the manager discounted our room by 50% which was a nice gesture.)Läs mer
