    Hurrah we have a canoe - just need a paddle now!New wind monitor cable! Customs were very interested when I left Gatwick.They didn't last long!Got to have some Wotzits with your wine!

    An early start for Sal from Gatwick exaggerated with the clocks going forward by 1 hour! Mark went home after a week of hard slog with Eric. Busy boys but still had time for a few beers and glasses of Greek Rose every night.Leer más

    Yard time

    Few bits to finish off before we are dropped in so old clothes and rubber gloves on! Boat needed a good clean and everything taken out of storage whilst Eric sorted insulation on the engine bay and greased the Prop. Curtains down and cushion covers off to take to the laundry and stock up with wine, beer snd crisps! That's Eric happy.Leer más

    Launch Day

    All went to plan and by lunchtime we were moored up on the dock. Lunch in local cafe with fresh kingsize prawns before heading off yo Port Heli to buy a paddle for the canoe before we gave the car back.

    Lazy day

    Before we set off we decided to have a lazy day as our mooring spot was so quite and secure we wanted to catch up on some sleep and relax. A morning walk along the coast you the Lighthouse before lazy long lunch.Leer más

    Always fancied stopping here but never managed to get in as to crowded in season. We managed to moor alongside and went off to explore.
    Very pretty quaint island but still getting ready for the season. Horse and cart is the mode of transport with the odd moped. Lunch of squid and salad washed down with a beer.
    On return to Carla we are greeted by customs not very impressed with our berthing so we had to take off and come back in Stern to! Should have known it was too good to be true!    Leer más

    Tools of the trade! Dentist pick, coat hanger and good old coke bottle!Taking in the sunset after hard afternoons work!And then it was gone.

    Early wakeup call

    Having moored stern to the night before we were woken early with a strange movement of Carla. She had definitely liked being alongside, as her anchor had slipped with the strong Northerly wind and current and we were swinging around towards the pier and another boat! Engine on and ee lifted the anchor so we headed off to an old favorite bay in Dakos for breakfast. Very calm and sheltered so Eric decided it was time for maintenance so I hoisted him up the mast to try and run the new cable for the wind monitor. We managed to drop it down but couldn't recover it at the bottom despite drilling a hole at the base of the mast!Leer más

    Having slept on our dilemma of a stuck wire, Eric decides to revisit the problem. With some jiggling, pushing and pulling we eventually get the wire through by helping it out halfway down with our technical coat hanger! All sorted we headed off to Hydra, another first for us as it's normally too busy to get a yacht our size in. Well worth a visit but can see why you wouldn't do it in season!Leer más

    Mandraki and Poros

    With big winds forecast we decided not to stay a 2nd night as it had been a bumpy night - lots of swell and movement in the harbour. Up early we decided to walk East over the headland to Mandraki, to check a small inlet where we could leave the boat next time and walk into Hydra if needed. A lovely walk and the flowers were stunning so will definitely be back.Leer más

    Poros

    With strong NE winds due we headed for Poros and decided to stay 2 nights. A very cold crossing and confused seas so we were glad to tie up to the Quay.
    GOOD NEWS we exchanged on our new house so a little glass of wine to celebrate. 🥂
    A lazy day in Poros waiting for the winds to change so we headed off for a walk around the Island.
    So cold in the evening we headed out to a restaurant with a heater snd bought one for the boat!    Leer más

    Beautiful day and no-one up yet!Had his coffee and looking good.Beautiful PorosGetting cold now - wind is up and ready to sailTough morning-time for a nap.     Crossing to Kithnos

    With the wind spinning round to the SW for 1 day only, we decided to head off early and cross to the Cyclades. A chilly start but we spotted dolphins, our first in Greece. A lovely sail once the wind got up mid morning-7 knots most of the way.
    On arrival we remembered we had been here before.last October and it had fantastic sunsets. This time it was still getting ready for Easter.
    A bite to eat and off to bed early to get some sleep as big winds due overnight!
    I now continue to write this sitting on the Quay at 3.30am as the boat is bouncing around too much to stay on! 3 boats in the harbour with us and everyone up protecting boats and checking fenders!!    Leer más

    Sifnos - Kamares

    A lovely direct sail in a choppy sea but Kamares on Sifnos was just as we remembered it, all be it a little quieter and with an empty key.
    Great to sit on the back of Carla in some sun and watch the ferries come and go before an early night to catch up on sleep!
    Feeling refreshed we headed out for a hike up the headland to the beautiful church and back along the beach for a compulsory beer. As we sat drinking our beer it seemed like there was a Greek painting party going on'15 local ladies start painting the pavement.
    Expecting another blowy night we added some more warps and crashed early.
    We weren't wrong - awake at 2am with gusts of 35-40 going through. Engine on and sit watching till dawn - working out our escape route! More tomorrow!!    Leer más

    Early exit to Ormos Vathy

    As soon as it was light we escaped from the Quay and headed out to the bay to anchor. We felt iit was safer with a day of 30+ knots of wind ahead of us. Plans to explore the island by car scuppered! Anchor took well and back to bed for some 💤.
    Mid morning we decided to head out to another bay that was less busy as the swell and wash was very uncomfortable. Well worth the trip as we had a calm evening watching a training flotilla Moor up on the Quay.    Leer más

    Happy at the helm.
    The statue Milos is famous for.Pkaka guarding the entrance to the natural harbour. Created by a volcanic eruption.Klima- little fishing village. The coloured doors are boat garages and families live above.Our home for our short stay.Carla sitting pretty - furthest left on the outside of the Quay.Milos looks better by night!Must be the cats siesta time!Fed and watered. Lemon meringue Greek style!

    This is more like it. Wake up in calm waters with sunshine! Needing to top up on supplies and diesel we head to Milos before exploring the smaller southern Cyclades over the next few days. No wind so we motored over hoping a little wind might join us!Leer más

    Day out in Milos

    With Carla safely tied up on a mooring line we decide to explore the island. Great day out bouncing around on our offroad buggie seeing the rugged west side of the island before heading to Pollonia for lunch, Sarakiniko caves and then up to Plaka for sunset.Leer más

    A lazy start and we headed off to Sikinos to drop anchor for lunch, to do some high finances for our house purchase and to watch Aunty Beryl's funeral on line! Amazing what the Internet can do in a remote bay on a remote island. Glad we could share the moment but felt quite sureal.
    4pm we upped anchor and headed off to Ios - not sure what to expect as reviews say lively party island!
    Definitely saw the infrastructure for this but it was magical whilst we were there. Still, quiet and everything we wanted - peaceful night, good food and lovely walk up to the Chora in the morning.    Leer más

    Naxos

    A trip to check out the marina we hope to leave Carla in whilst we head back to the UK for 3 weeks. All good and stayed put to see how the Greeks celebrate Easter. Lots or meat, fireworks and big procession on Saturday evening. Fire crackers all hours and lits of dining out with their large families. Making the most of Easter Sunday we headed off on foot to explore the town.Leer más

    A good sail south from Naxos once we had rounded the headland. A remote island with hippies and Greeks still celebrating Easter. One small restaurant with over 50 people getting fed - Granny peeling the spuds, Dad cooking, Mum dxrubbing and kids serving! And they did it!Leer más

    Drive out to Ormos Egialis

    Wanting to see the island as we probably won't make it back we headed out north to the Chora and onto Egialis. A mooch around another beautiful old town followed by a stunning drive along the top of the Island with fantastic views of all the islands around us. A lovely lunch then off to the Monastery of the Virgin Mary Hozoviotissa above Agia Anna beach.Leer más

    Beautiful calm bay

    Ano Koufonisi - Pori Beach Bay

    Time to head North so we got the laundry done and headed off to Koufinissi. A very disturbed sea with wind blowing about 18 gusting 30 knots made for a very wet crossing! Rougue waves caught us out and both had a bath on the run! On arrival the bay we had chosen was beautiful and calm but the swell kept up till about 9pm. Once it calmed we had a very quiet night and woke to a sunny still morning. Back next time for some exploring the caves.Leer más
