    Princetown, Vic

    19 января 2022 г., Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Stayed at Princetown Recreation Reserve...$75 for a 3 night powered site. Bargain but you get what you pay for lol! Downside was the filthy Easterly wind when we turned up and no shelter...no trees on powered sites so no shade and they were all situated around the local cricket oval 😆
Upside, the Easterly broke the 2nd day and it was a 1km walk to the Gellibrand River & Princetown Beach.
Visited the Otways Skywalk (the zipline was booked out for the next week, spewing!), Triplet Falls, Hopetoun Falls and the Redwood Forest for sightseeing/adventuring - some of those tracks are sooooo steep...its physically draining and exhilarating at the same time. Last day we had a rest day at Port Campbell and lazed on the beach for the day - and jumped off the jetty! Young, wild and free baby 🤙

ПутешественникNo, it was on the site next to ours when we arrived. The wind was so strong it just about flattened his tent! He was out most of the day and when he returned some of his poles were broken and there was no solution to get it to stand up to the wind...so we helped him pack up

Front Beach on Australia Day 🇦🇺
Yummo lunch at the pubNot much surf at Bells BeachCar was due for a wash...still red dirt coming out 😳Heading out for Oz Day lunch

    Torquay, Vic

    25 января 2022 г., Австралия ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Stayed 3 nights here...not much choice as far as availability so stayed at the Torquay Beachfront Holiday Park...absolutely massive campground and packed out for Australia Day. Not that there were any organised Australia Day celebrations on 😒 The pub across the Rd had a disco on the night b4 Aust Day and had "boom boom" music (as Pete calls it) cranking...but only till 11.30ish which was good as we could hear it loud and clear. That was ok but the poor young girl camped 2 sites away with her family, who had obviously had way too much to drink at the disco, was not ok as we had to listen to her wretching for hours 🤮 so gross.
On Australia Day we did the 12km return Ocean walk to Bells Beach (not much swell) which was good then went out for a boozy lunch...the masses had arrived and Torquay front beach was chockas!
The following day was hot, overcast & windy so went for a massage (which was a 10/10 !), did some planning before watching tennis all afternoon & evening. YAY Special K's, Dylan Alcott & Ash Barty!! 👏👏👏 Booked accommodation in Melbourne & Tasmania. Looking forward to going on the Spirit of Tasmania! Massive storm that evening...it was wild ⚡🌪⛈ Packed up early the next morning before another storm that was forecast arrived and got the heck outta there! See ya Torquay 👋

Booked a site with an ènsuite and we felt like royalty!! Omgosh I have missed showering barefoot lol 😆

Did some shopping, wandered around Queen Victoria Markets (not many stalls there currently due to covid), had a posh dinner at Movida, visited Petes favourite Irish pub, the Drunken Poet for a few Guinesses and some live jazz and watched all the tennis finals!Читать далее

    1Bye Melbourne!
1View from our hut at The Cove

    Devonport, Tasmania, Australia

    31 января 2022 г., Австралия ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

On board Spirit of Tasmania at 8am...headed straight up to buy tickets to the cinema (Belinda recommended as they book out quickly). The new James Bond movie was playing at 1pm which we hadn't seen, so happy days. Grabbed a bacon & egg panini for breakfast then took a look outside. It was a beautiful, warm,
sunny day - perfect for cruising across Bass Straight! We paid for recliner seats which were in a separate area, much comfier and quieter than those placed around the ship - money well spent as it is an 11 hour trip. We did some planning, I finished my book, we spent some more time outside, had a nap then grabbed another panini and a glass of wine for dinner before heading back to the car to disembark. It felt like a long day and I was knackered and I hadn't done anything!

It was a short 15 minute drive to The Cove where we'd booked to stay for the night (arriving too late to drive to ?? and set up the camper). The place was awesome...the farm had been in the family for 150 years. Saw my first real life highland coo (cow) but didn't get a picture 😞

    Dove Lake, Tas

    1 февраля 2022 г., Австралия ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Arrived a little late to do the Cradle Mountain summit hike (8 hours) so opted for the Dove Lake circuit - a really pretty lake at the base of the mountain. If we have time, we'll come back. The lake is approximately 2.5 kms long x 1 km wide. A pretty easy track to walk but so many different aspects as you go around it. It was a 3 hr circuit which we did in just over 2 incl. stopping to take loads of pics!Читать далее

Lake St Clair, Tasmania 7140, Australia

    1 февраля 2022 г., Австралия ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Arrived at Lake St Clair mid-afternoon and had to set up in the pouring rain 🌨 and it was 11°C to boot 🥶 Needless to say we stayed inside the camper and drank red wine for the remainder of the day lol.

Next day we hiked the Watersmeet track, Platypus Pool and Frankland Beach. Sadly, we didn't spot any platypuses 😔

There is an amazing Lodge in this National Park which has a restaurant & bar & log fire and is the start/finish of the Overland Track which is a 65km hike from Cradle Mountain to Lake St Clair or visa versa. Loads of serious hikers here as it's a 6 day hike if you go with a tour group. Apparently it's busiest during winter when there's snow ❄. Can't even imagine. It's summer and 11 freaking degrees!!
Anyhoo, Pete & I decided to hang in the warm, cozy lodge for the afternoon as they had a beer that Pete hadn't seen/drunk for 30 years. Theakstones Old Peculiar- something he used to drink back in the day after rock climbing. Their dark ale on tap was awesome also...chocolatey 👌 and we treated ourselves to dinner as well 😋

Last day, we hiked the Shadow Lake Circuit - 18.46kms. It was cold (started with 6 layers on) and rained at times and we spotted snow on top of the mountain in the distance. But it was bloody awesome!! So green, mossy and like you were in another land...we kept expecting Gandalf to step out from behind a tree 😆

    Snug, Tasmania

    4 февраля 2022 г., Австралия ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Day 1 - Headed to the famous Salamanca Markets and they did not disappoint! Such a variety of stalls, loads of people and scrumptious food set up on Hobart harbour, which was very similar to The Rocks. Bought a few goodies and enjoyed a refreshing ale at the Irish Pub.

Day 2 - we had an early start (6am) to catch the ferry over to Bruny Island and do a 3 hr cruise around the island. It was fantastic! Saw another seal colony, some very playful dolphins and the highest dolomite sea cliffs in the southern hemisphere! Had an awesome lunch at Bruny Is. Hotel...the best seafood chowder outside of Canada, Pete said 😉 They brew their own Apple & Cherry cider here also so tried and purchased some of that! yummo 😋
Drove to a couple of lookouts then it was time to catch the ferry back. An hour and a half wait as everyone else was leaving at the same time apparently!

Day 3 - drove the Southern Wine Trail (from Cambridge to Richmond) to sample some of Tasmania's finest produce. Stopped at a little town called Richmond on the way home...it was beautiful 😍

    Freycinet NP, Tasmania

    8 февраля 2022 г., Австралия ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

Managed to swing a couple of nights at a beautiful campground called Richardson's Beach. Spots are ballotted for the high season in August! I called and there happened to be 2 nights available 👏👏👏 #winning

After setting up, we walked up to the Lighthouse Lookout and Sleepy Bay Lookout.

The 2nd day we headed off on the hike that had brought us to this destination...Wineglass Bay. The pack was fully stocked - Pete mentioning that it was the heaviest he'd felt it 🤷‍♀️
The track up to the Lookout was steep but soooo worth it - absolutely amazing views!!
We continued on down to the Bay...we hit the gorgeous white sand but there was a hectic Easterly blowing...looking to the end of the bay it seemed more sheltered, so off we went...4km along the beach (great for exfoliating the tootsies!) encountering a washed up seal on the way 😢
Arriving 25 mins later to no wind, warm sunshine and the clearest water ever!! Hooray!! Pete actually got in the water before me...we hung out here for a couple of hours then braced ourselves for a further 2 hours to complete the circuit. After hiking across to Hazards Beach we were amazed how beautiful that was also...we'd had a fantastic day hiking 17.96kms and needless to say - we slept like the dead!!
This was definitely a highlight and we're chuffed we got to experience it 🥰

Our set up - no power or water here...completely self-sufficient 😉

    Bay of Fires, Tas

    10 февраля 2022 г., Австралия ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

Advised to get here early due to FREE first in best dressed camping. Scored a top spot at Cozy Corner Sth campground. Spent the afternoon lazing in the sun on the beautiful beach 50m away. Had a swim, was amazeballs!
Next day the weather wasn't so great so rock-hopped along the orange lichen covered rocks, which was fun. I spent a couple of hours looking in rock pools and the cracks in the rocks for crabs, sea urchins & starfish 🐚🦂 one of my favourite pastimes from when I was a kid 🥰
One of the "things to do" here is see a sunrise...so against my will each morning, we awoke to the alarm at 6am only to find it was overcast. No sunrise for us Ketut 😔
We did a bush walk out tothe point and the coastal walk out to The Gardens and back which was awesome and found out why it's called the Bay of Fires. The guy who named it was Captain someone-or-other who saw the Aboriginal (traditional owners of the land) inhabitants fires all the way along the bay - hence Bay of Fires.
Went to Latrobe for Valentines Day dinner before getting back on the ship...

    Mornington Peninsula, Vic

    16 февраля 2022 г., Австралия ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Well it's beautiful here! Went up to Arthur's Seat on the gondola to check out the view and walked a few of the tracks...it was a nice clear day so we could see Melboune on the other side!

From London Bridge Lookout we hiked out through Wilsons Folly to the old Quarantine Station where people & their belongings had to go through a boiler house and disinfecting station before quarantining when they arrived back in the 1800's. The ships were plagued with typhus, scurvy and measles...the station had been used as recently as 1998 to house Kosovo refugees! It was an eerie place, I could feel all the souls lurking about 👻 Fort Nepean was another few k's away...it was a huge place with tunnels and bunkers and loads of artefacts on display from the war. It was a well protected part of the coast that's for sure.
It is a lovely spot and we really enjoyed our time here...

    Jindabyne, NSW

    25 февраля 2022 г., Австралия ⋅ 🌧 16 °C

The GPS (Google Maps) took us via a very mountainous route...it had been raining non-stop for a couple of weeks so parts of the road were washed away and the road narrowed to one-car width at some points - it was a white knuckle drive! Seeing the Snowy River from above was awesome though...
The following day we drove up to Thredbo an caught the ski lift up to the top of Thredbo, then hiked up to the summit of Mt Kosciuszko and then all the way back down again via Merritts Nature Track...22kms for the day and our legs were like jelly once we got back to the car! Then home-made wood-fire oven pizza for dinner 😋
The next day, the sun came out and we did a quick 7km walk along Lake Jindabyne then relaxed for the rest of the day before heading to Banjo Patersons Pub for a lovely dinner & some wine.
We had booked a week on the beach at Huskisson following this stop but decided to head for shelter (Dads house) as more heavy rain was predicted for the following week/s.
