Same lottery as always. Sometimes I pay sometimes I do not. This time choosing the checkin counter with a guy with a "I dont care anymore" face might have paid off. He did not bother to control whether my kiteboarding gear was subject to an extra fee. Lucky me yay! Off to the non-schengen gates for a quick beer!Read more

Bumpy ride

Those were some real turbulences. People crying and screamimg. Food carts crashing and some spilled orange juice. My neighbour was not really enjoying it. Luckily I remembered the wise words of captain murdock: "Dont worry boys, turbulences never brought down a plane" ;)Read more

So much chlore in the sea! Nothing beats a cold beer in the pool. I am very satisfied with myself as I managed not to overdo it today - even landed that backroll with a nice side grab once, but wind not so good overall yet...Read more

Crazy mehmet is blowing hard. The hot wind usually means no kiteboarding the next day but beer helps me stay optimistic. Worst case scenario some standup paddling.

Feel the heat! Its barely breakfast time and it must be already at least 35°. Apparently the expert forecasters here say there is a high likelihood of no wind at all - but I choose not to believe them, much more convenient that way.Read more

Nothing like a tasty beef filet to keep your spirits high. My neighbour from Zurich just arrived so I took him obviously to my favorite restaurant.
He is again not over his ex-girlfriend... (this is a recurrent event). I provided him with very precious advice - not sure he will follow it.
As last resort there is the Saturday night's party at the 22, that should help him get better.Read more

Mercury falling.

Just realized I missed the pun with the "Mercury Rising" earlier in the week when temperatures where high as hell.
We are now in the acceptable daily range of 35°-25°. If the temperatures from 2 days ago were representative of the weather in Dubai I do not think I will ever go there.

Yenal is that guy - he stands out because of his candid talk, his natural joie-de-vivre and his (usually) respectful insolence.
Tonight dinner with him and his girlfriend (and mother of his son), Fanny (great name!). As always, many bottles of wine, starters, main courses and desserts. And as always a truly fantastic evening.
I shall recognize his ability to remaim himself in all situations, setups.
Yenal is a cool guy.

That one time I needed to sleep

Some improvised couple started a marathon in the room next door. At 3am. When the crescendo ended I had 4 hours left of sleep as I had to finish some work early this morning.
Motivation wasn't peaking at 8am.
Sleep deprivation and heat made me go selfie-berzerk mode, see below ;)

Wind faded away. After showing strenght early in the day he left stranded kiteboarders on the beach.
There is something powerfull about this place - the long water corridor which leads to the mediterranean sea reminds us how insignificant we are as individuals.

The turtle and the drunk

Met this guy on my way to the kitebeach today. There are so many turtles here actually. Small and big ones. Sometimes you feel something hitting your board when you ride but you don't see anything - ninja turtle!

Wind was strong from the beginning - 19 knots and more - but I am getting increasingly tired everyday and progress has slown down now.

Luckily I come back in a few weeks ;)

Yenal is leaving today so we celebrate by having a few beers. Next level drunk kiteboarding to come!Read more

There has not been a day without wind so far. I really need a break - doing so many mistakes now that I feel like I have been getting worse at jumping.

Actually a fun place. Nice dinner at the marina and then we crashed a hotel party in a cool club.
All girls on the dance floor were russians, paid to be here but it was still quite fun - bottle of gin did help with that.

It's a strange feeling. Today is the last day in Turkey but there is none of this melancholic "I will miss this place".
Maybe because I will be back in less than 3 weeks.
Maybe because after 10 straight windy days my body screams for some rest.
Maybe because after being away from my Zurich place for 3 months I embrace the fact of returning home.

All this to say, a last day without any sad thought is a ****ing good last day.Read more

Sheref is probably already waiting downstairs for me. He likes to be early, maybe to enjoy a few cigarettes before the ride to Dalaman.
Suitcase barely closed - let's hope they are not fixated on its weight at the airport.
Already looking forward to the 3 hours long stop in Istanbul... ah ah ah. That's when the priority pass comes in handy and I'll just find a lounge with a couch confortable enough.
