  • Gruezi from New York

    September 7, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Uneventful flight. Seats on Swiss planes are quite confortable so those 8 hours in the air did not feel like a long journey.
Manhattan now (once we get pas security, border control, and the horde of fans awaiting us at the airport).Read more

  • ESTA or not, you wait

Passeport, immigration form. Now right hand, 4 fingers, now the thumb. I did not even scream "that's what she said"!
70 minutes of waiting but we are through the customs!
Yellow cab time now and off to manhattan!Read more

  • Quick trip to NYSE to get some funds.

    September 8, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

The 9/11 memorial is beautiful. I was not expecting that. Next to it is the occulus, part architectural show off part shopping mall. Most impressive thing seen so far. Lot of gopro footage done there.
Mandatory stop at the New York stock exchange where most of my "savings" are. The good daily performance of my portfolio of one stock made the photo with the raging bull much more meaningful. Thanks mate for the $$$.

  • US Open and stuff.

    September 9, 2017, Padmasambhava Buddhist Center ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

We took the line 7 from Grand Central Terminal; that is one big train station!
As soon as we arrived to the gates of the US Open it was clear the event was of epic proportions (like everything else in NYC).
The first semi-final was an entertaining match but we were of course impatiently waiting for the main course: Nadal vs. Del Potro. The first set was everything we could hope for... and then Nadal demolished his opponent (4:6 6:0 6:2 6:3)...
In the end we were slightly dissapointed but still very conscious of the luck we had to even be there.
Classic evening ending with some custom cocktails (apparently a bit strong in smell and taste for my brother...). Also who the hell orders "Crispy brussels sprouts" as a bar snack!?

  • Just a regular saturday - part 1

    September 10, 2017, Padmasambhava Buddhist Center ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Our saturday started with the exploration of Chelsea, a cool area in the southwestern part of manhattan.
It looked like a great place live but then I checked rent prices and it's craaaazy! Much more expensive than Zürich for instance.
We walked for hours, surrounded by skyscrappers rising from the ground.

The ability to display negative advertisements here leads to interesting billboards.
After some quick tour at Macy's (50$ per pair of trousers?? Thats definitely not the same prices as in Switzerland) we headed to the Empire State building to meet some friends of mine who were also spending the weekend in NYC.
Typical, didn't see them in Switzerland for a year so it was much more convenient to just meet halfway around the world. :)

  • Sunday's finals

    September 11, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

We headed early to the flushing meadows to watch the women's doubles final.

(With a breakfast pit stop at 5 guys... damn those burgers man!!).

For the first match of the day we could sit anywhere we wanted so we obviously squeezed ourselves into some fat courtside seats and well... the experience is different...
Then for the plat de resistance we had Nadal facing Anderson. The spanish player dismissed his valiant opponent in straight sets to lift his 16th grand slam trophy! What a player!! Even from our promenade seats we could admire his mad skills.

A bulgogi burger and some beers closed up our last full day in NYC.

Shout out to the St. George Absinth, looked like perfume's bottle you would use at work ;).
