    Liverpool

    With kids out of school and us off of work, we packed in the morning, dropped Stevie off at the dog sitter and drove the 4 hours to our Airbnb in Liverpool. Located right by Anfield, home of Gideon’s favourite football team, the Airbnb is ‘Tik Tok’ famous for its decorations. We picked up groceries before check in and then made our way around the corner for burgers before the England semifinals vs Argentina. A heartbreaking finish before a late bedtime.Read more

    154th Open at Royal Birkdale

    July 16 in England ⋅ ☁️ 73 °F

    Up at 6.30 for showers and then off to the Liverpool Central train station a 15 minute drive away. After parking, we got a family ticket for the 9.30 train to the Royal Birkdale. The train before ours was cancelled so it was standing room only for the 45 minute journey. Unfortunately, more spectators got on at almost every stop so it was a relief when we finally arrived. The course was a short walk away. After security, we immediately hit up the souvenir shop where we got 4 hats and a golf towel for Dad. It was a super sunny, dry and warm day. The course ended up being rather dusty but we walked about half of it and got to see the main stars, including Rory in the afternoon. Lunch and drinks before everyone got a try at the golf screen (after a very long wait). It was a fun day. We took a (rather empty) train home and made pasta in.     July 17 in England ⋅ ⛅ 72 °F

    We made the same train today but this time we had plenty of room and got seats. It was cooler today and we went straight for the 9th hole grandstands. We enjoyed a beautiful view of the course and got to see the leaders come through. This time we brought sandwiches and ate in our seats as Rory drove the par 4 green (and missed the eagle putt). Afterwards we went over to the autograph area near the driving range and got a couple of signatures. From there it was over to the 18th green grandstands where we got to see two Open record rounds finish at 62. After Rory’s group passed through, we headed back to the Spector Village for some Loch Lommond scotch and gin. Our first night on the Northcoast 500 was at Loch Lommond so it felt appropriate. It was a beautiful day and a short walk back to the train and home for showers and delivery from Dishoom (a famous Indian restaurant in London that we have been wanting to try for some time). After eating, we got to play Liverpool in Liverpool while listening to the Beatles!Read more

    Anfield

    After sleeping in, we packed the car before walking down to Anfield. Joce and Gideon left a little early so they could get geared up for their abseiling adventure. For a little extra, you could scale down the side of the stadium. It was a cool and clear morning and the other three of us got a good view. A unique experience and a good start to the day. Afterwards we took a scheduled tour of the stadium, finishing on the brand new field. It started to rain right as the tour started so we got the abseiling in just in time. The stadium was huge and beautiful and has quite a history. After a pit stop in the store for some Liverpool gear for the boys, we made a pass through the museum and then headed back to our car. A gas refill, Subway lunch and a Dramamine for H for the drive home. No traffic and arrived nearly an hour faster. It was a great time and a new adventure.Read more
