Elliot Heads Soldier Crabs on Anzac Day

    April 25, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

Relaxing was the goal of today, ANZAC Day. Australia / NZ's remembrance day for those who served and died in war and conflicts. 2 old war planes flew over as part of the remembrance service here, we ate Anzac biscuits and heard some stories on TV. Lest we forget.

We kept it local around the 'house' and did a refreshing walk at low tide over the lagoon / rivermouth at Elliot Heads, where we stay, that ends up in the ocean. Yesterday and the day before Guido was kitesurfing here, at high tide. In his opinion it was the best place ever to kitesurf!

After a while we found out that the puddles on the sand were occupied with groups of Soldier Crabs! It brought a lot of excitement, it was really funny to see these small armies of crabs walking together and digging themselves in the sand when we came close, or Pied Oystercatchers (birds 😅).

The wind was (still) strong, so our fishing attempt was aborded within 10 min... J &Q had jumped in the water, so no fish around anymore and the bait blew of our hooks...😂😂..

Better do some 'work' at home... J & Q made apple pie, washed their cars and did their daily writing and drawing in their travel book.
