    Rockhampton Zoo & Mount Archer

    May 24, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Mount Archer gives a beautiful look out over Rockhampton, so we wanted to check that out! On the way to the top, we saw our first Echidna in the wild along the road. I parked the car as quick as I could to see it from close bye! It wiggled through the high grass to its underground shelter! Wauw, that made my day 😊😊! The look out was all right, it was cloudy and a little rainy, so not very much to see, altough the boys were happy with the nice nature playground there. Also it was a good place for a quick lunch picknick in the pretty rare habitat of the cycas plants.

Before leaving Rockhampton we visited the free (!) Zoo. It had mainly local animals.. Julius and Quinten had a blast feeding ecalyptus leaves to the emu's, and we saw a very active koala ... they normally sleep, so that was fun to watch. We enjoyed a family of gorilla's, especially with the keeper explaining a lot about them. Then it was time to get back to pack, as the outback is waiting for us!!!
