Belvedere Palace is one of Vienna’s most significant Baroque palaces, built in the early 18th century as a summer residence for the military commander Prince Eugene of Savoy. This magnificent palace complex consists of two buildings, the Upper and Lower Belvedere, connected by an artistically designed garden with fountains and ponds.
Prince Eugene of Savoy, a successful military leader and patron of the arts, commissioned the construction of the Belvedere.
After Prince Eugene’s death, Empress Maria Theresa acquired the Belvedere and from 1770 onward, it was used as the Imperial Picture Gallery.

Today, the palace houses the Österreichische Galerie Belvedere, which features the largest collection of paintings by Gustav Klimt in the world, including the famous masterpiece “The Kiss”.

The entire complex is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is a place where art, history, and architecture come together in impressive fashion.
