First day in Lobitos!

First day in Lobitos and it has been lovely!!! Landed feeling a bit nervous but after a bumpy taxi ride and some good tunes I was feeling a lot more chilled. Met lots of cool people and went to the beach for the sunset - was sooo nice and the surfing looked incred. Also made best friends w 3 doggos straight away (obvs) then out for beers and ceviche!! Great place and great company - still have no clue what I’m gonna be doing for the next 4 weeks but hopefully my meeting tmw morning will clear that up. No other medics here and Apaz haven’t been for a few months!! But hey ho am sure it’ll all work out in the end. Biggest thing to note first off is that the number of grasshoppers and cockroaches here is insaneeee - have already been attacked by a few. Now going to bed and got the top bunk :(((((( it is absolutely boiling so will see how well I sleep 😐Read more

Got all dressed up in my scrubs ready to go - most annoying part was having to fight 4 grasshoppers out of my trainers - but was informed that the medical centre was closed today (lol) so went to the beach instead. Was v pretty but ended up with a very burnt back (on the first day I know), wandered back and had a meeting about a project I’m gonna help with - need to find a grant apparently? Have no clue how and no laptop but hey we’ll give it a go. Went to the coolest beach where we had to walk down the cliff for sunset but didn’t swim bc was embarrassed of my burn lol. Then went back for dinner and to karaoke night. Was at the cutest lil local bar, everyone was so friendly and we danced the night away. Went for a drunk swim 🤪 which was maybe not the best idea bc we all kept thinking we were gonna drown and is actually terrifying when you can only see the waves a second before they hit you. But made it out safe and sound :)))Read more

First week of placement (actually went)

Made it to the medical centre and have actually done some medic stuff over the past few days!!! Is weird getting used to what they have and don’t have and what I can do but is pretty cool, I baso have freedom to do anything. There’s also no doctor in the whole place ahahaha, but is pretty much like a GP so kids with sore throats and lots of UTIs, saw someone with a crazy high blood sugar today and they just gave her some fluids. There’s no running water and barely any gloves so is a bit mad tbh- there were two stray dogs wondering around the place today. Also have to write the medical notes en español ahaha thank god I have a translator. Other than that have seen lots of pretty sunsets, watched the inbetweeners movie (the Americans don’t get the humour), played just dance, ate lots of yummy food and more ceviche, done lots of reading and have been in the ocean every day- it’s a tough life. What a week!! Mainly full of sunsets, ceviche and beaches 😎 went on a hungover fishing trip and felt a bit rough but didn’t through up! Then night out last night obvs ended up in a drunk swim and a bonfire on the beach - lots of people leaving tonight but am excited for next week!! 🏄‍♀️ ☀️Read more

Second week done!! Absolutely flying by v sad! Peruvian Independence Day meant we only worked 2 days ahaha people don’t get ill during the holiday apparently 🤷‍♀️ also meant lots of parties and too many beers (my surf instructor said I’m only allowed 2 now ;(), went to see some caves on a bumpy moto taxi! Lots of friends that arrived w me went home so house feels v empty now. Planning on lots more surfing this week 💯Read more

Wow this is going too quick :( onto last week already and never wanna leave. This week was super busy but also so much fun - lots of surfing, saving lives, did a skate lesson, went to a party town for a great night out, swam with turtles - was lots of fun and gonna try make the most of the last week!!!Read more

Final pics from Lobitos! Can’t believe it’s over, what an incredible month! Spent the last week eating well, partying hard and surfing every morning - including a sunrise surf on the last day. Was super sad to leave everyone and the memories but am so beyond happy to have had the best month there!!Read more

Reunited!!

Left Lobitos to a lonely Lima hostel room (but slept like a baby so 🤷‍♀️) but woke up to a friendly face arriving in Lima! Went for a yummmm brek and then a morning surf. Got absolutely humbled by the big waves but managed to catch a couple and they were pretty cool - we both got stupidly burnt bc ended up staying in way longer than we thought shredding 🤙🤙🤙🏄‍♀️ went for lunch w some nice gals then hopped on a bus to meet Liv in Huachachina!! Finally reunited and it feels so good!!! Lots of story exchanges then beer pong- went to a dead club where the highlight was the dog! Next day did sandboarding and it was suuuuuuper fun - Alf was the fastest (shock) me and Liv were a lil scared but only skipped the biggest one (we’re not crazy) then off to Paracas! We stupidly didn’t check the buses and had missed the last one so ended up taxi-ing it (boujee bitchez) no time to nap because it was pub quiz time!! We ended up winning by a kinda embarrassing amount but it was lots of fun!! Next day got up early to go in a boat tour (stressed Liv out by being late- guess who got distracted by a cat) and saw dolphins and lots of sea lions!!! Then had a veryyyyy chilled day w a long nap, missed the sunset but went for some yummy ceviche. Then salsa class which was really fun!!! Me and liv got knocked out of the first round of the beer pong tournament but it was by the winners so we’ll allow it!! Woke up this morn and had to check in to go home tomorrow which was a sad moment :(( currently on the bus back to Lima for a final big night!!! Can’t believe it’s almost over ;(Read more

And just like that it’s over!!! Had a fun last night in Lima, went for tacos and accidentally ended up at a Peruvian stand up comedy night. Unfortunately we had to leave mid way through so got laughed at as we left but hey ho was a fun experience!! Then a great night to finish and 1 hr sleep for me and liv. We were both still drunk when we woke up and 7 hours later we finally sobered up wondering how on earth we made it on the plane (and how they allowed it) but made it pretty smoothly!! Still have the glitter eyes that I put on more than 30 hours ago oops. Back in ldn town now and feeling v worse for wear - this weekend is needed for recovery!!
