Our first look at Passau is on a walking tour with about 25 others. The attraction is only that we are guided by a Bavarian woman who has a sense of humour.
St. Stephens Cathedral

Charming Bamberg

Bamberg is the burial place of Clement ll. One of a very few Popes buried outside of Rome. This city was left untouched during the war due to what the citizens of Bamberg believe is their good karma.
Rauchbier!

Known for Rauchbier, or smoke beer, you can get an early beer if you like. We came by before 10am and they had been open for a while. The beer is flavoured with a bacon taste you either like or hate.

We have our boat parked in the overflow parking lot for large river boats. The ones who got here first are parked right downtown. We had to take a bus into town.
Prince-Bishops Residenz

I thought that this would house a great number of bishops. I was wrong. Only one lived here. The residenz (palace) was built between 1720 and 1744. It took another 36 years to finish the interior.Read more

We have a collection of old and new art here. We showed up at the cathedral around noon, just when the Sunday peal of bells began. It was very loud and long. There was 50 bells rang at the same time!Read more
