Kliening - Austria with the family

    July 2, 2016 in Austria ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

I met up with my sister and her family in Austria for a few days. After they picked me up in Graz, we went on to find the 5 star rated chalet she booked online. The gps in they're rental car was pre-set to exclude all toll roads. So it took us on the scenic route. Then onto a dirt road. After 5 km, and during a major thunderstorm, we turned back to the main road and called the rental agency for help. It took us another 30 minutes of nail biting before we reached a new group of homes, so high that we felt like we were on top of the world. Nice find Sis!

    Day 1 - The Caves
Well, we drove all day using thr gps in the car to find the caves, and once again found ourselves on a dirt road heading into a cow pasture. So we called the car hotline to fix it, and 3rd tmes a charm, they told us to call the concierge service to find a BMW service centre. To our surprise, there was one nearby, about 15 km away. It took 4 people to understand the problem, and a technician 10 seconds to fix it. Now in our defense, we were unable to access the area the technician had to get to, to fix the problem. We then went to fill the tank before picking up the boys at the F1 race and heading out for some pizza.

Day 2 - Shopping in Graz
We went shopping in Graz. It was a beautiful day. We laughed, shopped, ate, and are now ready to drop. We thought we'd do Chinese tonight.

Day 3 - The Caves & Tree Top Walk
We're trying the caves again today, now that the gos is fixed, and we made it! Well worth the wait. Then we did a 2.5 km hike to the tree tops in Pagau. A great way to see some sites and get exercise.

Day 4 - To Germany for a few days.

    Brussels to Graz

    June 30, 2016 in Austria ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

A long day to be on the trains. Left Brussels at 7:30 and arrived in Graz at 22:15. B&B is quite nice. Looks like all the rooms are for sharing like a hostel, but I got it all to myself. What I noticed on the train ride:
    - There are these cute little plots of gardens, with sheds and patios, anything you would see in your own backyard. I saw a few lounging, bbq, a trampoline, small pool and lots of vegetable gardens, flowers, and hedges.
    - Noticed a lot of solar panels on houses and in fields next to the train.
    - There are a lot of trees. Everything looks so green and lush.
    - The mountains seem to have a lower elevation, at least where I passed through. Only saw a few valleys high up that had a bit of snow left in them.
It was a great train ride. I'm glad I did it all during the day. Just a quick note about the pictures. All of them were taken on a fast moving train, so please excuse the glare off the window.
    That's it for now. Cheers!

    London to Brussels

    June 28, 2016 in Belgium ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Okay, so one questionable hotel isn't too bad, is it? I included a pic from my window - and I'm not touring a ruin 😳. Anyway, the train ride was great and the sites and food in Brussels are wonderful. I even found a Chocolatier called "Elisabeth", so of course I had to get some sweets for my sweetheart waiting at home. I also stopped at the local market for some cherries to take on the train tomorrow. It will be an early start and late arrival, so you may not hear from me for a bit. Cheers!Read more

    Dublin to London

    June 27, 2016 in the United Kingdom ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Caught the fairy in Dublin and landed in Holyhead. Then boarded the train to London. Once in London, I decided to check out Platform 9 3/4, to get on the Hogwarts express. It was difficult for an old muggle like me, but I did pretty good, if I do say so myself.Read more
