What an amazing first day with Backroads in Oregon. Started in Bend with group orientation. Shuttled to Smith Rock State Park where we had a quick hike, snack and then on our bikes for a 16 mile ride to lunch at an Alpaca Farm. Delicious lunch with local fresh food. Learned about Alpacas and of course got some yarn. Afternoon ride was 26 miles through beautiful scenery with the Three Sister mountains always in the background. Arrived at our beautiful accommodations for 2 nights at 5 Pines Lodge. We have a sweet cabin in the woods. Shuttled to dinner at a local farm and learned how hard it is to grow food in Oregon d/t a short season and water rights. Wonderful meal finished our day.Read more
