We were in the fence after Hurricane Helene took her trip up the East Coast. Well, I was. But Catherine had faith that we would be just fine. And we were. Grabbing a King Cake for Sharon & “The Sisters” we set out at noon. Entering the hardest hit area that we had to drive through, it was dark, so all we really saw were the downed trees close to the travel lanes, several damaged cars along the highway and some eerily dark areas. We tried a few hotels, but finding no availability, we arrived at the Riptide Resort exactly 13 hours after we left.Read more

First full day in Myrtle Beach

After a quick night of sleep Catherine and I headed out to my favorite breakfast place in Myrtle Beach, Johnny D’s. Then we drove around taking in the sights. Even stopped at an Open House in a small beach community to get a feel of the real estate market here. Don’t know if I am just giddy with relief of a safe trip here, or operating on only a few hours of sleep, but little things just hit my funny bone today! What made us laugh? Adaption of a side view mirror made out of hand mirrors and duct tape, a huge octopus filled with trash and a limbo game at a drive through were my best pics of the day. Did a little grocery shopping for the week and settled in to our little apartment overlooking the pool and ocean. The weather was perfect as we enjoyed time by the beach with Sharon, Michelle, Lisa & Linda. After a seafood dinner it was time to relax and catch up on some Zzzzz’s.Read more

Exploring

It’s a beautiful day at the beach. Lisa & Linda enjoyed the sand and surf and I took off exploring with Catherine, Sharon and Michelle. The Purple Store was first in the list, right next to The Christmas Mouse and around the corner from a unique gift shop The Mole Hole. All the shops are around a lake setting with places to sit, sip and enjoy the view.
Travels took us shopping, including an Amish store and bakery.
We joined Linda & Lisa for lunch at Bummz Beach Club. Then on to Total Wine and Kirk’s Ice Cream.
True to form, we played Rummikub around the kitchen table. Winning that was a nice end to a great day of shopping, eating and laughing.Read more

Is it already Wednesday? We have something for everyone here. Some like the sand. I enjoy sitting by the pool every day. And of course, the shopping. Retail, resale, flea markets and country stores. You can shop such an assortment of holidays this time of year!
We’ve added restaurants like Dirty Don’s, Cafe Vienna, and Paula Dean’s to Kirk’s, our favorite ice cream joint.
And we can’t forget playing candy bar bingo with Sharon’s Aunt & Uncle. Sharon was the big winner.Read more

More Fun Times

Shopping, lunch and an adventure.
Another Under the Sun flea market was followed by a great Mexican meal at a little hole in the wall place. The food was excellent.
Then onto our Escape Room adventure from Kansas City to the yellow brick road. We never did make it to Emerald City. Maybe next time.
On Friday Catherine, Sharon and I drove to a section of Myrtle Beach we had not visited. Lots of new construction of homes and commercial properties. Found a little New England Seafood restaurant for lunch and relaxed until time to head your way the Barrel Bar & Grill for a Garbage Pizza, cocktails and Trivia. We won 3rd prize! Up and at ‘em early, heading home. Catherine and I had so much fun with Sharon, Michelle, Lisa and Linda! But always good to be heading home, too.

Home again, home again!
