It’s a better day ☺️
22. februar, Spanien ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C
It was still a rough night being up every hour to drink a sip or two of chamomile tea and pee…. But thank you Lord for a settled belly! However my face was achy probably from retching so hard the night before! Rod is still dealing with a lot of burping and very low energy. We had eggs and toast in our apartment, showered and headed out for a bit of site seeing.
We had a good visit with the owner and his daughter as we were leaving the hotel. He had travelled extensively for work and they moved 14 times! They have two daughters. The 17 yr old we met was starting at maid/janitor work as he started her in the family business. He had worked corporate for 25 years and started this business just as Covid hit.
On the way to site seeing we stopped at a pharmacy and got a rehydration juice box. Tasted nasty but necessary to get our systems back on track.
Luis had suggested Ferdinand and Isabella tombs that were located a few blocks away. So we followed his advice into the cathedral (photos allowed) and then the building that housed the tombs. No photos are allowed in there.
Another absolutely spectacular cathedral! It would have to be if it was the king and queen of Spain’s cathedral!
It was good to walk around. And totally contrary to my belief that we do not even enter McDonalds, Burger King or Dunkin’ Donuts, or Starbucks when in Europe, a plain burger sounded just so good on a tender tummy. So we violated our rule and indulged in a McDonald’s burger. Mine completely plain, just burger and bun. Rods was a Big Mac without cheese and lettuce. Still relatively plain. We returned to the hotel to rest. We have a great event planned for tonight.
We took a taxi to Restaurante Flamenco Cueva La Rocia for a flamenco dinner and dance. The streets they have to navigate by car instead of horseback with all the tourists is something else!!
We were early so we walked down the street to get a view of Alhambra, the great Moorish palace. It is the #1 tourist site in Granada. You have to get tickets weeks to months in advance. Even without tickets you are free to walk the grounds. Disappointed to miss it but it is what it is!
We booked the early dinner and basically had the restaurant section to ourselves. It is built in a cave so they have various tunnels two for flamingo dancing one for dinner. We had a choice of appetizer entrée and dessert plus they gave us a tapa of crusty bread, avocado spread with an anchovy on top. We liked it although I know many don’t prefer anchovy. Anchovy, sardines, octopus, squid are all very popular here. Oxtail is traditional and one of my favorites. Gazpacho is also traditional and that was my appetizer. It was good but after being sick I didn’t want to have something too acidic. Rod had the hot vegetable soup which he preferred to mine. For entree, Rod had steak and I had oxtail. Both were really good. Dessert was leche /milk cake with whipped cream and flan like Rod’s mom used to make. Again both were delicious. All accompanied by a glass of red wine 🍷
Since we had paid for dinner and show, we were led into the dance 💃 🕺 cave.
They gave us the first seats next to the performers: two men and a woman who provided music and singing and three dancers. This specific show is all spontaneous and improvised. You could see from the way the performers interacted that they would challenge each other to faster, slower, longer til the women had sweat on their brows! They tap and land so hard I was afraid of getting my toes stepped on lol! Very impressive! Their footwork was amazing!
In all a pretty good day considering our health challenges. Tomorrow is a travel day back to Madrid. We booked tickets for 11:13 am so we don’t have to be up crazy early.
Love to all 💕🙏Læs mere
