  • Chuson Ji Temple

    Chūson-ji is situated on the top of a hill named Kanzan, and often called Kanzan Chūson-ji. According to temple records, it was founded in 850 by Ennin (Jikaku Daishi), a monk associated with the great monastery Enryakuji and third head abbot of the Tendai sect.   • Dinner at Ichinoseki

    We had been eating seafood every day, so it was time to try some meat in Japan. We went to Bikkuri Donkey to enjoy Japanese-style hamburger steak.

    Their patties are made from a blend of ground beef and pork — the beef comes from pasture-raised cattle, and the pork from pigs raised under strict standards. Their special soy sauce–based sauce makes the hamburger steak especially savory and delicious.Baca selengkapnya

  • Shinkan Sen

    For most of the S2J 2025 Travelers, it was their first time riding the Shinkansen (bullet train). Everyone was very excited and checked out of the hotel around 6:30 a.m. to catch the 7:12 a.m. train, enjoying sandwiches on board.   • Hiking along the Oirase Gorge

    The Oirase Stream Trail is a 14-kilometer path along the Oirase Gorge in Aomori Prefecture. The relatively flat and well-maintained trail is suitable for most fitness levels and follows the stream as it flows from Lake Towada.

    Most people enjoyed a three-hour hike to Lake Towada, taking in the beautiful scenery of the streams and autumn colors, and arrived at the lake by 1pm.

  • Lake Towada and Lunch

    Everyone arrived at Lake Towada and visited the Statue of Kotaro Takamura before lunch.

    Kotaro Takamura was a prominent Japanese sculptor, poet, and essayist who lived from 1883 to 1956. He was a leading figure in the modern Japanese art world and studied Western art in the United States, England, and France.

    The bronze statue was created in 1953 to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the establishment of Towada National Park.

  • Tsutanuma

    There was a strong bear alert in Japan, so we shortened our hike and carefully made our way to Lake Tsutanuma. The autumn colors had just begun to appear, creating a beautiful and peaceful scene.

  • Hakkoda Ropeway

    The Hakkoda Ropeway was suspended the day before due to strong winds, and they had the first snowfall of the season last night. Around the ropeway station, the autumn colors were beautiful, and we enjoyed the stunning scenery. After climbing to the top of the mountain, we were greeted by another kind of beauty — a landscape covered in white snow.   • Apple Picking

    Aomori is famous for its apples, and we enjoyed picking Shinano Sweet apples. I had never eaten such a delicious apple in my life! We were allowed to take back the two apples we picked.

  • Okonomiyaki Dinner

    Nick and Lili wanted to try okonomiyaki, and Margarett and Sheila joined us for dinner. The master chef cooked right in front of us, and we enjoyed the meal with some beer.

  • Wa Rasse

    The Nebuta Museum Wa Rasse is a city-owned museum near Aomori Station in the city of Aomori in northern Japan. It displays a revolving exhibit of four Nebuta floats from the most recent Aomori Nebuta Matsuri summer festival, alongside media related to the festival.

    A Nebuta dancing lesson was taking place, and both the S2J 2025 travelers and the junior high school students participated. It became a fun and memorable experience for everyone.
