Buffet à volonté et on paye ce qu'on veut ?!? 🤨

L’Opéra 🎼, nos cartes d’identité 🪪 et Jeremias 🎶 ont un point commun. Ils se trouvent tous à Vienne ✨ Alors c’est parti !

Nous arrivons en soirée 🌙 en train 🚆 depuis Maribor et découvrons la ville illuminée ✨ avant de rejoindre à vélo 🚲 Johannes notre hôte Warmshowers pour deux nuits 🏡

Notre première mission, retrouver Jeremias à qui Iason (son frère) avait fait livrer nos cartes d’identité 🪪.

Le temps d’un café ☕, nous échangeons avec Jeremias sur notre voyage, sa passion pour la musique 🎵, ses études à Vienne et le stage qu’il a effectué à Singapour 🌏

Nous repartons avec nos pièces d’identité qui auront elles aussi bien voyagé avant d’atterrir à Vienne 😄 Mais pourquoi est ce si nécessaire que ça de voyager avec ?

On vous explique !

On essaie de réduire nos bagages 🎒 dès que l’occasion se présente. Et il y a quelques semaines, Léa et Iason sont venus nous voir à Fribourg en Allemagne 🇩🇪 et nous leur avions laissé un sac avec quelques affaires superflues… dont nos cartes d’identité 🪪 ! Sauf que nous tenons à voter 🗳️ et pour aller au bout de la démarche de procuration, il nous faut les CNI pour les scanner sur le téléphone. Résultat : retour à l’envoyeur 📦

En France 🇫🇷, on peut désormais donner sa procuration pour toutes les élections à partir de l’application France Identité 📱. Voter est un acte important pour nous ❤️ et nous avons ainsi pu faire notre procuration pour les élections municipales 🗳️

Nous visitons ensuite Vienne comme de bons touristes à l’ancienne 🧭 avec une carte à la main 🗺️ et une boussole :-)

On observe quelques particularités 👀 entre autres les énormes vélos 🚲 sur les pistes cyclables. Et on a bien souri en découvrant les feux de signalisation 🚦, assez originaux, pour les cyclistes comme pour les piétons 🚶‍♀️🚴. On vous laisse regarder les photos 📸

Après cette belle balade, nous nous dirigeons vers le restaurant qu’on nous avait conseillé 🍽️. Notre curiosité est immédiatement éveillée lorsqu’on nous explique le concept : un restaurant “all you can eat, pay as you wish” ✨. Nous arrivons donc dans ce petit restaurant pakistanais 🇵🇰, nous nous installons, et allons nous servir au petit buffet 🍛. C’était absolument délicieux 😋. L’atmosphère est vraiment sympathique avec beaucoup d’étudiants et quelques touristes curieux comme nous 🌍

Au moment de passer à la caisse 💸 le propriétaire nous lance avec un grand sourire 😊 : « Combien souhaitez-vous payer ? » On a trouvé ça vraiment incroyable ✨. On trouve ce modèle particulièrement inspirant💡. Faire confiance aux gens 🤝 pour donner ce qu’ils peuvent et permettre aussi à ceux qui ont moins de moyens de venir manger dans ce restaurant ❤️

Nous allons ensuite au parc 🌳 pour digérer tout ça et commencer à réfléchir à la suite 🧠. Nous avions pris contact avec plusieurs hôtes Warmshowers qui semblaient très intéressants mais malheureusement nous n’avons pas eu de retour 😕. Alors la question se pose. Où aller ensuite ?

Et puis, tous les deux, nous ressentons l’envie de nous poser un peu 😌 de vraiment nous reposer. Ce que nous n’avons pas encore fait depuis le début du voyage. Nous regardons les différentes possibilités 👀. Budapest 🇭🇺, qui n’est pas très loin, nous fait de l’œil. Nous trouvons une location d'appartement avec une énorme réduction de dernière minute 🏠 puis un train lui aussi réservé au dernier moment 🚆… et voilà, la suite du voyage se dessine ✨

The Opera 🎼, our ID cards 🪪, and Jeremias 🎶 all have one thing in common: they’re all in Vienna ✨ So, off we go!

We arrive in the evening 🌙 by train 🚆 from Maribor and discover the city all lit up ✨ before cycling 🚲 to Johannes, our Warmshowers host for two nights 🏡

Our first mission: to meet up with Jeremias, to whom Iason (his brother) had arranged for our ID cards 🪪 to be delivered.

Over a coffee ☕, we chat with Jeremias about our journey, his passion for music 🎵, his studies in Vienna, and the internship he completed in Singapore 🌏

We leave with our ID cards, which have also done quite a bit of traveling before ending up in Vienna 😄 But why was it so important for them to travel with us?

Let us explain!

We try to lighten our bags 🎒 whenever we get the chance. A few weeks ago, Léa and Iason came to visit us in Freiburg, Germany 🇩🇪, and we gave them a bag with a few unnecessary things… including our ID cards 🪪! Except that voting matters a lot to us 🗳️, and to complete the proxy voting process, we need our ID cards to scan them on the phone. Result: back to sender 📦

In France 🇫🇷, it is now possible to assign your proxy for any election using the France Identité app 📱. Voting is important to us ❤️, and thanks to that, we were able to arrange our proxy for the municipal elections 🗳️

We then explore Vienna like good old-fashioned tourists 🧭, with a map in hand 🗺️ and a compass :-)

We notice a few unique things 👀, including the huge bicycles 🚲 on the bike lanes. And we had a good laugh when we discovered the traffic lights 🚦, which are quite original for both cyclists and pedestrians 🚶‍♀️🚴. We’ll let you check out the photos 📸

After this lovely walk, we head to the restaurant we had been recommended 🍽️. Our curiosity is instantly sparked when the concept is explained to us: an “all you can eat, pay as you wish” restaurant ✨. So we walk into this small Pakistani restaurant 🇵🇰, sit down, and help ourselves to the little buffet 🍛. It was absolutely delicious 😋. The atmosphere is really lovely, with lots of students and a few curious tourists like us 🌍

When it’s time to pay 💸, the owner greets us with a big smile 😊 and says, “How much would you like to pay?” We found that truly incredible ✨. We think this model is particularly inspiring 💡: trusting people 🤝 to give what they can, while also allowing those with fewer means to come and eat at the restaurant ❤️

We then head to the park 🌳 to digest all that and start thinking about what comes next 🧠. We had contacted several Warmshowers hosts who seemed very interested, but unfortunately, we didn’t hear back 😕. So the question comes up: where do we go next?

And then, both of us feel the need to settle down for a bit 😌, to truly rest — something we haven’t really done since the beginning of the trip. We look at the different options 👀. Budapest 🇭🇺, which isn’t very far away, catches our eye. We find an apartment rental with a huge last-minute discount 🏠, then a train booked at the last minute too 🚆… and just like that, the next part of our journey takes shape ✨
