    April 8 in Slovenia ☀️ 17 °C

Today, we explored the Ljubljana Castle. As it was 115 steps uphill, we chose to ride the funicular. The castle dates back to the 16 th century and is on a hill 375 metres above the old town. It has a beautiful view of the town and the mountains in the distance. Most of it is original, although they have lots of glass shields in place to protect it. On display are the prison cells and towers and lookout stations and replicas of the typical weapons of the day.
After that we spent some time in the market. It wasn’t very full of vendors. The weekend are their main days. They had wonderful looking fruits and vegetables, flowers and a small section with clothing vendors.
We walked around old town some more taking pictures and enjoying the sites. For supper we decided to try pizza. Since Slovenia is close to Italy, there is a touch of Italian influence around. The pizza was very good, enjoyed again with Slovenian/Italian beverages. Ed the usual Union beer and I tried a lemoncello spritzer. We returned to the hotel and had a drink in the lounge, as we had free passes for the drinks from the hotel for not having the room cleaned one day. Unfortunately, the pass offered limited drinks and the wine was horrible. The first bad wine I’ve had.
It was an earlier night as we started to get our bags ready as we will be heading to the airport in the morning to pick up the car. We’ve figured out why Slovenia is so clean. They have city street cleaners with carts come around and pick up litter. It reminds me of Mary Popins. We found the carts sitting under the bridge waiting for the next shift to come and keep Slovenia clean.
