• Salt beds/ Koper/Izola

    April 11 in Slovenia ☀️ 19 °C

Today our first stop was the salt beds. We checked out the exhibits of how the salt is accumulated from natural causes of the sea, sun and bacteria. No one was working as it was a Saturday but it was interesting to see all the sections for harvesting the salt. They harvest a coarse salt and a flower bloom used as a finishing salt
Then on to a town called Koper located on the coastline. Koper is an industrial city as it has a port for sea vessels, including cruise ships, and an old town. We explored the medieval old town, viewing the Venetian architecture of the buildings and palaces, the old wall and gates from the medieval times as well as the ocean front marina. There was a concert happening and many people were out and about. A lively place.
After Koper we went on to the next seaside town Izola. We didn’t spent much time here as it was getting late but we did pick a place for supper. Ed had pasta scampi and I had pork tenderloin with gnocchi. All their pasta was homemade and it was delicious.
On our way home, we decided to take a drive down the Main Street in Portoroz. We had planned on stopping at a grocery store and bakery to pick up some food for tomorrow, as we will be moving on again. Unfortunately all the stores were closed. I did get a couple of night pictures of the city.
