• Lake Bohinj and the Julian Alps

    April 15 in Slovenia ☁️ 12 °C

We’re happy to be in our new spot for 5 days. And even better it’s off season so things are nice and quiet. Although it does mean some of the restaurants and attractions are closed. Our hotel is modelled in a typical alpine decor. Once it’s warmer flowers in the flowers boxes complete the alpine decor.

We had a great breakfast again with a freshly made egg omelette, with cheese and peppers for me, and bacon made to order and offerings of fruit, breads, yogurt, cereals and desserts. Ed has started to enjoy a coffee on the balcony after breakfast. We have a wonderful view of the Julian Alps from our balcony.

The weather has gotten a bit cooler but it’s nice and crisp and fresh. So we walked into town and stopped in at the Visitor Center. It was a very disappointing visit. The worst I’ve ever experienced. The clerk wasn’t very helpful. I had to keep asking questions and dragging info from her. She had no info or maps to offer, unless I specifically asked for something. And they didn’t have the maps I was accustomed to getting. Which is odd, because every other location had them as they were from the Slovenian tourist agency. She seemed to not know what I was asking for.

We drove around this side of the lake and stopped at a few spots for pictures. The lake is beautiful and it was so crystal clear and calm it had reflections of the beautiful mountains from its other side.

We returned to the hotel and did laundry and other misc stuff.

It was still a bit cool out but we walked to a restaurant for supper. We split a hamburger and potato wedges. It was very good. Another interesting aspect of restaurants here is the way they sell steak dinners. They sell by the kg and have the available sizes by weight on a blackboard and cross them off once they are gone. They also have sheepskin covers that they use on the patio chairs when it’s cold. The advantage of a smaller supper is room for dessert. We had crème boule. A nice finish to the meal.
