  • We Made It!

    June 29, 2018 in Peru ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

After a long day of flying we finally made it to Peru! We are celebrating with Peru’s classic drink - a pisco sour.

  • Vamos Argentina!

    June 30, 2018 in Peru ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Everyone at the airport is all around a giant screen showing the World Cup game. Since Peru has been eliminated Argentina is getting the cheers!

  • Arequipa

We kept hearing a familiar tune while walking around. We asked our tour guide and she said “Oh that’s the garbage truck!” 😝

  • From Arequipa to Colca Valley

    July 1, 2018 in Peru ⋅ ⛅ 6 °C

Today we made our way through the mountains to get to Colca Valley. We made some friends along the way - both human and four legged! Our group had people from the US, Belgium, and Australia. We stopped and met some llamas and alpacas and also posed with an active volcano behind us! We finally arrived in the afternoon to a beautiful view. Our hotel is so beautiful and has a very friendly 6 month old alpaca! We hiked a bit and then went to a hot spring which was the perfect way to end the day!Read more

  • Colca Canyon

    July 2, 2018 in Peru ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

The second deepest canyon in the world. We were also able to see some condors flying around the canyon. We also enjoyed the local drink - the Colca Pisco. It’s made with the fruit from a cactus.

  • The Alpaca Is My New Favorite Animal

    July 2, 2018 in Peru ⋅ ⛅ 7 °C

Adorable, more fluffy than you can imagine, and they make the cutest little noises you have ever heard. I got to cuddle with this one at a market outside of Colca Canyon. He’s only 6 months old!

  • Suma Willjta Island

    July 3, 2018 in Peru ⋅ ⛅ 3 °C

In Lake Titicaca, on the floating reed islands they don’t have much in the way of law enforcement. Instead, if you’re a piece of shit, they saw your home right off with one of these.

  • Lake Titicaca

    July 3, 2018 in Peru ⋅ ⛅ 7 °C

At over 12,000 ft above sea level, this lake is the highest navigable body of water in the world. We navigated to Uros, a community that lives on floating islands in the lake. They welcomed us on their island and showed us how they build them. We got to ride on one of their reed boats and even got our passports stamped! We then went to Tequile, an island inhabited by another pre-Inca group. We walked to the top of the island and then had a chance to learn more about their culture as well as have a lunch prepared by them. Most importantly, Bosh managed to not get sick on the boat! Hurray!Read more

  • From Puno to Cusco

    July 4, 2018 in Peru ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

A 10 hour bus ride normally sounds horrific, but we had an amazing tour guide and made some cool stops along the way. This included some Inca ruins and a 17th century church.

  • New LinkedIn Profile Picture

    July 4, 2018 in Peru ⋅ ☁️ 7 °C

While we were walking through the ruins of the Incan Temple of Viracocha, the Inca god of creation, some dude was spying on me and painting me. He got onto our bus after the tour to show me. I ended up loving it and bought the painting (yes, I’m aware I got hustled).Read more

  • A Tour of Cusco

    July 5, 2018 in Peru ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

Today we toured the main square of Cusco and then went outside of the city to see Inca ruins. This included a water temple and the place where they kept mummies! The buildings along the main square either used a lot of the Incan buildings as a foundation or just destroyed them. Interestingly the Incan parts of the buildings are always the ones that survive the earthquakes! They really knew how to build. The main area of Cusco is so much fun to walk around. Both you and cars navigate through very narrow cobble stone streets. The city also looks pretty amazing from the top!Read more

  • Sacred Valley

    July 6, 2018 in Peru ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

Today we toured two Incan sites in Sacred Valley. We also got to learn the process of weaving alpaca fur into beautiful scarves and clothes. Much of the Incan architecture, including the waterways in the small little town we are staying in, are still used today. Pre-Incan sites are also still around in the area. Our guide was fantastic and gave us a lot of information on the Incas, from their agriculture techniques and how it utilizes the sun and mountain locations to the ongoing search to figure out their written language. Tomorrow we head on a train to Machu Picchu!Read more

  • Huayana Picchu Hike

    July 7, 2018 in Peru ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

We finally made it to Machu Picchu! Our first part of the trip was actually hiking a mountain beside the ruins. And boy was it a hike! My watch said we walked nearly 90 flights of steps and most of that was very steep! Fortunately we had some Canadians giving us pep talks as we went up. And the view was absolutely worth it! You could see all of Machu Picchu. Then we had to take our shaky legs and go back down to get our tour in of the ruins.Read more
