    Lincoln National Park

    12 апреля 2025 г., Австралия ⋅ ⛅ 33 °C

A perfect day to explore Lincoln National Park - initially the road in is sealed but side tracks are gravel and claytop and quite corrugated.
The coastline is rugged and wild on the ocean side and sandy and calm on the Spencer Gulf side with beautiful blue water.Читать далее

    Whaler’s Way

    13 апреля 2025 г., Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Whaler’s Way is a tourist route on private land and a key code has to be obtained from the tourist information centre to gain entry. Whaling (Southern Right Whales) operations were only moderately successful here between 1837-1841.
Our first stop once inside was Cape Wiles and a chance to see fur seals, we saw two.
    Lunch at Theakstone Crevasse.
Mainsail Break on Cape Carnot is the most accessible and spectacular spray to be seen on the peninsula.
Red Banks and Red Banks Beach is a camping area accessible by a sandy winding track with no facilities and overlooks Harpoon Bay.
Osprey have built their nest on a rugged pinnacle, although not a rare bird it’s unique to see them in the wild at such close quarters. The nest is 32 years old, being built upon each season and is sited 61 metres above sea level. We didn’t get to see the birds unfortunately.

    Coffin Bay National Park

    14 апреля 2025 г., Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

After a quick food shop and book shop at Vinnies we left Port Lincoln and drove the 50kms to Coffin Bay NP to spend 2 nights at the remote Morgans Landing campground.
Once we were off the sealed road of the park we deflated the tyres to 20psi on the front and 25psi on the back, the track has deep ruts, narrow passes & soft sandy sections. There was a sand drift across a beach section of the track and as it was just coming off high tide we were unable to get through. I went for a swim and then we walked along the beach track for about 1.3kms to check the conditions further along. After waiting about 2 hours we decided it was safe to continue on.
Reached Morgan’s Landing at 4.45pm, which is at the western end of stunning Seven Mile beach, this remote and secluded campground is nestled among a grove of shady paperbark trees behind a low coastal fore dune.

    Morgan’s Landing

    15–17 апр. 2025, Австралия ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

Up early to see the sunrise but very overcast. Lots of feral bees competing for our water which was a bit hazardous. Walked along the beach and collected some beautiful shells.
Lunch on the beach while Charlie did some fishing.
Another walk on the beach in the opposite direction, then a quick swim before a bit of light rain in the late afternoon.

    Coffin Bay

    16 апреля 2025 г., Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Up bright and early today and an easier trip out as we were right on low tide. Had breakfast at Golden Island lookout where we saw a large pod of dolphins surfing and numerous sharks not far behind.
Back into Coffin Bay for cheap fuel on the Eyre Peninsula.

    16 апреля 2025 г., Австралия ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Leaving Coffin Bay we continued north on the Flinders Highway, took a detour into Farm Beach - another pristine beach which what looks like a holiday destination only.
Stayed at Elliston opposite the historic jetty which ceased operations in 1965.Читать далее

    Elliston Sculpture Trail

    17 апреля 2025 г., Австралия ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Clifftop Drive out to Salmon Point is a great view of the bight and sculpture trail. About a dozen crazy surfers had climbed down the cliff to catch some waves.
Further down the highway was the Colton Bakehouse - an honesty shop selling loaves, rolls and hot cross buns.Читать далее

    Murphy’s Haystacks

    17 апреля 2025 г., Австралия ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

These striking inselbergs (a German word meaning “island mountain”) rise from the rolling farmland of the Eyre Peninsula, creating an awe-inspiring natural wonder that has stood for over 100,000 years.

Carved by wind and time, these pink granite pillars and boulders hold great cultural significance for the Wirangu people.

The name "Murphy’s Haystacks" comes from a traveller who once mistook the formations for stacks of hay on the Murphy family’s property. This privately owned and maintained attraction offers a picnic area and public toilets for visitors, as well as a campground with a $4 pp entry on an honesty system.

    Point Labatt Conservation Park

    17 апреля 2025 г., Австралия ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Point Labatt Conservation Park is home to the only permanent colony of Australian sea-lions on mainland Australia and offers a unique opportunity to observe these rare and endangered marine mammals.

A viewing platform on the cliffs, 50 metres above the beach, lets you observe the sea-lions along with New Zealand Fur seals dozing in the sun on the beach and rocks.

We headed to Streaky Bay to camp for the night. As it was the day before Easter and as we had not booked ahead we were only able to get an unpowered sandy site miles from the amenities. 😏

Organ Pipes, Gawler Ranges National Park

    18 апреля 2025 г., Австралия ⋅ 🌬 29 °C

Leaving Streaky Bay on Streaky Bay Road north to Eyre Highway for a couple of kilometres and then north again on to the gravel “Princes Highway” into the Gawler Ranges NP. Characterised by the jutting rhyolite pillars and hills topped in large, rounded granite domes, the Gawler Ranges were formed by a dramatic, short-lived series of volcanic eruptions about 1,600 million years ago. First stop Organ Pipes which is the best spot to see these pillars. The flies were particularly annoying today - you can see one in one of my photos.Читать далее

    Gilgandra

    22 апреля 2025 г., Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Stopped here for an early lunch en route to home.
The cast iron Coo-ee statue is a war memorial located in Miller Street, Gilgandra. It depicts an Australian First World War soldier with his hands cupped to his face as he calls out 'Coo-ee'. It commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Coo-ee March, which left Gilgandra on 10 October 1915 to recruit men to enlist.
Arrived home around 5pm after another successful trip!
