Last few days in Malmo

Well this last week has been super busy. The main reason we came to Sweden this year was to help celebrate the wedding of Emily and Fredrik. Emily is our niece and has lived in Sweden for the past 3.5 years. They decided to have a small family garden wedding in their new home and we were super lucky to be invited.

The beginning of the week was full on celebration preparation including baking a wedding cake. Regan had great fun in the supermarket using Google translate to find the items on my shopping list. The funniest was sugar was translated as comfort socks.

There was some hand wringing on Tuesday as it was terrible weather with large showers passing over regularly and plan B was discussed but in the end Wednesday was a perfect day to hold a wedding in the garden. The garden was transformed with amazing flowers supplied by Fredrik’s mother including beautiful wild flowers. There was an even spread of Swede’s to Kiwi’s and a wonderful day was had by all.

Thursday was a very quiet day all around. We went into town with Judy and Grant to have brunch and walk around the old area of Malmo. Regan and I went to the Emporia shopping mall near Emily and purchased a few last minute items. We then had a relaxed family barbecue with all the family.

Today was our last day already and we had to pack up and move out of our Air BnB. We had the use of a car so no cargo bike this time. We then had a delicious lunch under the trees in Slottstragarden and a wonderful wander in the sun. Boy we are going to miss the warmth and sunshine.

We got a ride to Hyllie station after saying our goodbyes. Always hard with little people involved as you know they will be so different the next time you see them. We had a slight panic as there had been a rail accident and the trains to the airport were significantly delayed. When one finally arrived it was so packed but thankfully we had had plenty of practice muscling onto trains from our Melbourne days so made space.

Once Regan hauled two large suitcases up the stairs from the train platform at Copenhagen Airport the rest of the check-in process was very straightforward. We are not looking forward to the long haul home but so happy we got to experience all we have over the past month.Read more
