A day of rest

Sunday is a day of rest so we are off to visit Steka and take some well needed supplies in preparation for us returning to paint the orphanage. Can’t wait to see Patrick our adoptive son from last time, the Renfrewshire contingency met him in 2015 when he was roaming free with no one caring for him. A change to the plans and no steka today but going to help support the training centre attached to steak by painting it. God knows has 75 children in his care and four of his friends ping people, all girls are going to university. What an outstanding achievement 💖Read more

For three days I’ve managed to get my exercise in, this morning it wasn’t quite thirty minutes, meaning my calories burning has exceeded 2000. Manis brought me a gift

My friend Manis from two years ago brought me a gift today. Nedson from dream travel was a star and was able to let her know that I’m a veggie and don’t eat chicken but she was profusely thanked for the thought. People with very little can show kindness that beggars belief in our society of dog eat dog and people looking out for themselves. It was awesome 👏👏 👏💖💖💖Read more

Manis brought her Mum and Dad to meet me and I’d already met her older sister and older and younger brothers. At sixteen she is waiting for her results before moving on to secondary school. I’d planned to sponsor her two years ago but she couldn’t be found when people returned to the visit. She’s a bright girl and has made sure that she found me on the first day. She’s due to go to secondary after her results come in. Happy days 😊Read more

Another day another dollar

Day four on the building site today and heading into work and taking in all the views. I’ve spent the past few nights having early days as nothing can make me more tired at the moment than manual labour I’m not used to. Had my usual thirty minute jog this morning joined latterly by Michele and Carol. The locals have started looking forward to my morning run and wishing me good day..

the morning trip to the village is a hive of activity with cooking at the side of the road, bicycles being ridden to work with a heavy load or passenger but the motorbikes three a seat is something I haven’t seen before. I will post my photos gradually as I’ve realised that I’m struggling to post at the moment with my snaps, I’ve taken so many.

I’ve got into the habit of taking my malaria tablets with breakfast after a few days where I’ve been extremely unwell. You have to have to be firing on all cylinders to make it through the working day so wish me luck on day four at the site 💖Read more

A day at the spa to rest the aching bones after another wee jog but this time along the path to the beach. Have to get the balance between work and play and treat yourself once and again after grafting so hard. It’s been a tough four years working full time and studying for my phd and to add to this I’ve had two trips to Malawi. This year has been fabulous so far. Fun in the sun

What a great time we’ve had at the spa. Nine out of sixteen of the group took the opportunity to share this experience and its given us an opportunity to see the other side of Africa. Sandy white beaches, beautiful wildlife, fishermen in the sunset, fabulous accommodation and food and beautiful surroundings. Only a very small percentage of local people will get to experience this, which is such a shame but I have to remind myself that even those wit very little appear happy and content.

This is our final day here so off to get the swimsuit on and to take in some of the rays. Laters...Read more
