    Lets get started or "I am gone for now !

    Today is the day!

    After 4 weeks preparation time - I am joining my backpack on it's trip. The Osprey already started its journey from Chicago via New York last month with two weeks hang time in Leipzig at the Germans customs. ;)

    Now we travel together, all by myself. Next stop Bangkok and from there to a 3 weeks adventure in Vietnam.

    The plan - there is no plan ! Starting south from Ho-Chi-Minh City, traveling zigzag with the wind - direction north.

    Having watched tons of Vlogs, Blogs and already made some friends within local forums - I feel prepared, excited and am looking forward to the unique experience.

    Inspired from the travelers community, I found it an interesting challenge to travel with a minimum gear. So what you see is a total of 15Kg with a net weight of 10.5kg. Let's see how it plays out - I might still have to much stuff with me. The last days where a tough decision making - reducing a lot of the origin planned things.

    As digital traveler I will share some of the milestones to my follower. So whoever want to join in - welcome to my trip. Stay tuned on this channel - more to come.

    Thailand stopping by

    The myth for the high level service at Thai airline is true. Super nice stewards, with besides their energetic smile - good looking.

    The plane was ok - but not upgraded seating as you will find with most Lufthansa planes.

    The airport transfer zone surprised me with endless stores with all the brands you find in the western world. There was not just one store selling watches or duty free - but 800m long repetitive the same stuff - 20 each. Wonder how that works from economics point of view.

    Catching a quick fruit bowl on my way - heading to my Gate for the second leg of my flight.

    After a nice ride with a bike - my room was already available. Thank god a shower helps to refresh my body.

    Ready to rumble - into the day. The city already has me on the hook. What a different to anything I have seen so far. And yes, the traffic is exactly as wired as they say.Leer más

    first day experience

    A long day - not stopping after arrival. Already experienced the traffic by feet, getting slowly used to it....very slowly. If it were not so dangerous - crossing street like in frogger - it would be real fun .

    Hitting Ban Than Market - a gorgeous place to shop around - good I have no room left in my backpack, as the place is full of dragons.

    As always it pulls me to the waterfront - after phoning home, time to rest and check in with myself sitting watching the boats

    second day - birthday tour - first stop

    Having switched my tourguide for today - I again took a nice ride on a bike . With locals the traffic jam is pure fun - will provide some video on my other blog later.

    tuctuc towards church, post, war museum

    Several stops - tuctuc through traffic was a fun experience. Driver waiting on us finishing our sightseeing. That dude was for sure very seasoned to get us through the traffic ... the smile unbelievable as I tipped his extraordinary and extra miles .

    What a day ! Thanks for all your wishes

    It's mission impossible with bumpy internet, timeshift and local activities to keep up with all the nice wishes to my birthday. So to all I did not response or at least liked your wishes - I did received your message - which paid into a wonderful day full of overwhelming experiencences. Thank you so much !

    I though this will be a birthday without a proper birthday cake, but as you can see from the pictures, I received two. My local friends and the super nice AirBNB host took really care of me and made that day really special.

    Ending with a dinner on a boat and go the night Ban Than Market was the perfect ending .

    Tomorrow I gonna be heading towards cu chi tunnel.

    Let's see what this will add to the history I took from the war museum.

    Tunnel cu chi - within the viet cong

    After the tour was skipped this morning - my guide, as flexible Vietnamese are, organised it the private way. We went by Taxi which was very convenient, as we could stop at every nice place.

    After breakfast on the road - a very delicious soup -we finally arrived at the Viet cong place.

    Very impressive experience - scary with a slight clausthrophoby panic - getting into 100m tunnel. It was as narrow as you have to duck and crawl in 4wheel style .

    last night out in HoChMinhCity

    On our way back i had the first rain and thunder - some streets where flooded slightly. But that did not stop the traffic at all. After a quick refresh we went to another great rooftopbar of the tourist trails. It is so great to have local support - although it's an ongoing battle who takes the bill: )

    The food is super delicious again - really getting used to it

    Finally all plans for the next days are settled, leaving to Can Touh by Bus tomorrow - getting back to just sleep over in HCM city and leave to NaTrah for taking a rest at the beach from the tons of activities.

    Having met a German guy today and got an invite to join their party for some days that seems to be the way forward to meet them on my way, losing my last local guide on going North anyway    Leer más

    lunch in the dschungel

    After the boat ride we had a climpse into a palm tree factory and had a walk through the dschungel to have lunch at a private property. The fish they called elephant ear - of course my guide was kidding around - as I though they kill elephant and really serve their ears. happy it was a fish in the end.

    the bike ride was quite funny. 3km one way through the djungle we have arrived a huge tree. before our way back we had about local lunch.

    As this is the first time I came across a grilled snake, frog and a rat, my guide convinced me to at least try. After I switched the brain to death, and tryed it the different way - I must admit, it is ok to eat such animals, as they really taste like chicken. just the snake was a bit like chewing gum.

    on our way back in the bus now- last time back packers district nightlife at HCM City and tomorrow morning fly further to na trahn - beach time ahead.    Leer más

    I am impressed that's how securiy were as we had no terror in Europe. just bags been scanned through, no need to unpack everything. of course shoes and belt had to go off, but not a big deal. and fortune enough my backpack works to be carry on.

    As as I learned I have a lucky foot, again it played of getting the emergency exit .

    quick breakfast on the airport after touchdown. it's 30 degree sunshine . my guide already managed the cap. 10 dollar for 1.5h Taxi ride - no comment.

    Hotel Arrival - Hang lose day

    we arrived as planed - we skipped the cap as the bus was just 3 Euro for 40km. another lesson on how to get the same with less money the rooms are ok - laundry done, quick nap., I like the fact we are both located without rooms on the 32th floor. nice sideward looking ocean and city view.

    did the laundry in the afternoon and a citywalk . lyndy teached me in ricepaper rolls. inside of the roll comes what is around the table : green , pork , crispy roll. I liked it a lot. I got a little bit reminded in regards of my old-school days were I still rolled my own cigarettes in a Way :)

    from there to the beach the sun already went down and we did stroll on a dark beach were pictures made no sense.

    late night club check in - awesome dj played ultra good sound.

    finally cable car to island

    after breakfast we had the crazy idea to stroll to the cable car - I really enjoyed the walk although it was like 33 degree and sweated, it was again a different type of street. After an hour we finally decided to go by Taxi and found out it was still 2km ride :)

    the island- a mixture of Disney and beach resort was a wonderful experience

    swim in the ocean
    sunbath
    water music
    some carusell
    nice 4D cinema
    and the most impressive thing- riding the cable car

    After sunset and hanging around the island we came back an did have our dinner next to the hotel

    first time I saw a stitched picture vernisage. very impressed

    city Tour Nha Tran

    today we skipped the sun - as I had still a bit of a red skin :] and went instead to the city. As walking were already the exercise we took the 4h tour with a cyclist. this was the best decision as I could take pictures while driving and enjoy the fresh wind.

    we saw a lot of temple and stopped by a carpet production. quick beach by return to watch the waves and get some coconut milk.

    dinner at the same restaurant as our first choice was crowded .

    After dinner strawl to the night market - first time I had ice rolls. banana - very tasty.

    tomorrow - beach, checkout, meet with the German guys from cu chi and take the night train to Da Nang    Leer más

    Da Nang arrival

    after 10h - arrival in Da Nang. I was invited to play card as my guide already slept, a group of funny guys catched me on my way to the toilet.

    the game was fairly easy to understand - the people so nice and funny.

    sleep was ok - had some wake ups but not many . in general a convient way to move on and sleep at the same time, and on top saving a hotel cost for one night

    now we need a hotel as we decided to get our rooms at ad hoc this time to get the best spot .    Leer más
