• Day 9 - Juneau

    September 21 in the United States 🌧 9 °C

Our 1st port today, after a rocky night - not quite sure how we stayed in our beds last night!!! Lara & Ian found their sea legs 🙌
The girls headed up to the Crow’s nest after breakfast and started a puzzle - didn’t get very far!! Then we docked at our 1st port, Juneau, capital of Alaska.
Juneau is the only U.S. state capital accessible only by plane or boat—no roads lead here. It is a historic gold-rush town squeezed between steep mountains, the ocean, and the Tongass National Forest (the world's largest temperate rainforest).
It was moody and rainy when we got to port, apparently a typical Juneau day! There were lots of birds flying around as we left the ship, which looked like bald eagles and juveniles.
We walked past Tracy’s Crab Shack an iconic seafood spot, famous for serving Alaskan king crab at $90 per pound, none of us were keen enough to try it at that price!
Totem poles including figures from tribal stories lined the dock and we saw a man in the middle of creating a new additional totem pole.
Obviously a pit stop at the Alaska Brewing Company was then needed before our seaplane adventure!
