    It's so easy to get good shots with Danbo. I just stood him up on the side moulding and had him looking bup at the domed ceiling. I thought that one of the guards would say something to me about putting something up there but they left me alone to get my pictures. I was so glad, and thankful, for that.Baca lagi

    A barrel filled with corks from used wine bottles was close to where we were sitting. They seem to drink a lot of wine in Italy! Something about this scene looks so interesting to me. I'm thinking it's the pattern of so many of the same thing all together. Whatever it is, I like it!Baca lagi

  • Bread for Starters

    We started off, of course, with some very fresh and tasty bread. Like all Italian restaurants, even the ones back home, there was no butter for the bread. Instead, we had a saucer of olive oil to dip the bread into. The first time I saw this, I thought that it was strange, but now, I kind of prefer it. We don't do this at home, but I enjoy it in a restaurant.Baca lagi

    I ordered Cacio e Pepe. Cacio e pepe is a pasta dish from modern Roman cuisine. "Cacio e pepe" means "cheese and pepper" in several central Italian dialects.     Kathy ordered Gnocchetti Al Ragu. Gnocchi al Ragu are gnocchi (dumplings) with a meat (beef) sauce.
    The perfect gnocchi is plunged into boiling, salted water and snatched out the second it begins to float to the surface. This creates a light, pillowey, and digestible dumpling. You will know when you have eaten good gnocchi.Baca lagi

    Bryan ordered  prosciutto, with buffalo mozzarella, from the appitizer menu, along with a pasta dish. He must really be hungry! Prosciutto is an Italian dry-cured ham that is usually thinly sliced and served uncooked. I don't think that I would care for this.Baca lagi

    Everything was so tasty and delicious but one thing we all noticed was that our pasta was kind of hard, as if it wasn't really cooked enough. Apparently, that's how pasta gets eaten in Rome. I'm not sure that I like it this way. It doesn't really change the taste but it's a texture that we're not used to.Baca lagi

    My Cacio e Pepe had so much pepper on it that it was too spicy for me to eat very much of it. Bryan finished it off for me so at least the food didn't go to waste. I don't know how he's able to eat so much and always stay so slender. I wish I could be like that!Baca lagi

  • The Way Back

    We're almost back to the hotel. It's been a long day and we're feeling tired but happy. The walk back to the hotel helped us walk off our dinner. I'm in the mood for some gelato but, sadly, it looks like everything is closed for the night. We're not seeing very many people either. Although it's a big city, Rome closes up kind of early.Baca lagi

  • Fares, Please!

    The ticket machines were very easy to use and, thankfully, had an option for English. I was kind of disappointed that, like France, they use paper tickets that are only good for one ride rather than a refillable card good for multiple rides. I was hoping to add another transportation card to my collection.Baca lagi

    I have to say, I'm a little disappointed in the appearance of Rome's subway stations. It's very dark, gloomy and depressing. I think a bit more lighting in this station would go a very long way. Although I've cleaned it up in the photo, there was quite a bit of trash on the tracks. Dark and dirty is not a good look for a city. I'm hoping that other stations will be better.Baca lagi

  • The Coliseum

    This is our first look at the Coliseum as we went in. I'm was surprised to see that it looks like it's under construction. Apparently, the Coliseum is in a state of nearly perpetual conservation. Real conservation did not begin until the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. A law was passed in 1743 forbidding any further removal of stone. The east and west ends of the building were reinforced to stop them collapsing. But it was not until the nineteenth century that the first systematic excavations of the building began Baca lagi

    As soon as we got into the Coliseum we started taking pictures of each other. I guess that we were all so happy to be in this historical place and wanted photos of us being there to remember it. Bryan looks so serious though.Baca lagi

    Kathy took this picture of me at the Coliseum. Although it's nice to be able to look back at pictures of myself being here, I know that I'm never going to forget our visit to the Roman Coliseum.
