  • Still on Walkways

    November 2, 2024 in Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 88 °F

We’re still on the moving walkways and making our way through Suvarnabhumi Airport. It’s a great place, so far, but very crowded. I feel like we’re going through the entire airport. I can’t remember ever going so far to get to the immigration area and baggage claim.Read more

  • Where’s Grab?

    November 2, 2024 in Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 88 °F

We passed through immigration very quickly and got our luggage but now we’re having trouble finding where we can get a taxi to our hotel in Bangkok. We’ve asked several people and nobody really seems to know where we should go. We’re starting to get a little frustrated!Read more

  • Grab

    November 2, 2024 in Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 88 °F

It took us a while but we finally found the Grab taxi stand. Grab seems to be the equivalent of Uber here in Thailand. We installed the app on our phones and it seems fairly easy to use. Let’s try getting a taxi to take us to our hotel.Read more

  • So Crowded!

    November 2, 2024 in Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 88 °F

We set up an account with Grab and requested a taxi to get us. The wait time is listed as 15 minutes but, with such a big crowd here, I don’t know how that’s possible. We’re hoping that it won’t be too long though.Read more

  • Cancelled Cab

    November 2, 2024 in Thailand ⋅ ☀️ 88 °F

I’m not sure what happened but a few minutes before we were supposed to be picked up, our taxi was suddenly cancelled. We were, understandably, upset and confused but, after talking to the staff at Grab, we were told that another taxi would pick us up in 10 to 15 minutes. We were so annoyed but we just had to deal with it. What other choice did we have?Read more

  • Our Taxi

    November 2, 2024 in Thailand ⋅ ☀️ 88 °F

Finally our cab arrived! Our second taxi took a bit less time than Grab predicted but it still doesn’t excuse the cancellation of our first taxi. We’re too tired to even care anymore and just want to get to our hotel. We’re riding in that green and yellow car.Read more

  • On Our Way

    November 2, 2024 in Thailand ⋅ ☀️ 90 °F

We’re finally on the way to the hotel! It feels so good to have left the airport and we’re, at last, making some progress on our journey. There’s not much conversation between us and the driver but I’m thinking that’s more because of the language barrier rather than rudeness or disinterest.Read more

  • Side Streets

    November 2, 2024 in Thailand ⋅ ☀️ 90 °F

As we drive further into the center of Bangkok, the streets seem to becoming more run down and less glamorous. I’m surprised by how similar Bangkok looks to Manila, or at least what I remember Manila looking like when I was there many years ago.Read more

  • So Many Wires

    November 2, 2024 in Thailand ⋅ ☀️ 90 °F

I’m shocked at the electrical system here in Thailand. I’ve never seen so many power lines hanging up together like this. This actually looks very dangerous. I wonder how many electrical fires a system like this causes each year.Read more

  • Power Lines

    November 2, 2024 in Thailand ⋅ ☀️ 90 °F

Here’s even more power lines than what I saw before. If someplace has electrical issues, and needs their wires worked on, how would the repair technician even know which wires to work on. This looks so complicated!Read more

  • Checking In

    November 2, 2024 in Thailand

We checked in and just wanted to get to our room and sleep a bit but there was some confusion as to the days we were booked. It was supposed to be booked as of last night but, since our plane arrived so late, we didn’t need the room. Kathy and the desk clerk were going around in circles, neither of them understanding, or listening to what the other one was saying. So frustrating!Read more

  • Thai Massage

    November 2, 2024 in Thailand ⋅ ☀️ 88 °F

After a much needed rest, we decided to explore the area around our hotel. This Thai massage place was right next door, and we want to try a massage here, but we decided to do it another time. You never pick the first place you see.Read more

  • Birdhouse?

    November 2, 2024 in Thailand

We’ve been seeing these little buildings that look like birdhouses all over Thailand but this is our first chance to get a good look at one. Most are much more elaborate than this one. These are so interesting, and different, to us.Read more

  • Guardians

    November 2, 2024 in Thailand ⋅ ☀️ 88 °F

After a bit of research, I found out that these are spirit houses, also called San Phra Phum in Thai. San means shrine and Phra Phum means Spirit, God or Angel. Thais believe that protector spirits live in these little houses so they will build one in front of their home or business. So interesting!Read more

  • Wires

    November 2, 2024 in Thailand ⋅ ☀️ 88 °F

I’m still feeling kind of shocked at what the electricity situation is here in Thailand. I’m wondering if it’s only like this in Bangkok or throughout the whole country. I guess that I’ll be finding out soon.Read more
