    Dead seals. Yikes.

    This is my happy place. Unfortunately Megan was too covid-y to enjoy. I was delighted to go down to the beach in the evening, until EWWWW there were dead seals washed up. About 8 of them. Someone swore it was sharks, but Google says it's been going on for the past 3 years. A bacterial infection is killing pups and young adults. Maybe why the docs in San Francisco was empty. I was alarmed and sad, then focused on getting some interesting pictures of them for Megan and had to threaten her not to go down and collect a seal skull, because, deadly bacteria!!! I showered after my beach stroll, however the seals didn't deter people and their kids, dogs and surfers from playing in the water just feet away from the rotting dog-sized bodiea.     Asilomar Conference Grounds

    Megan liked our rustic rooms at Asilomar. She said it was like the set of Twin Peaks. After adjusting my worldview to accommodate dead seals, I enjoyed the evening on the beach and got some pretty pictures. I sat on a rock above the tide pools and called Zac, enjoyed hearing him describe hot weather, lawnmowers and other home news while I watched the surfers bobbing in the water.Read more

    Aquarium

    Even though she felt crummy, Megan insisted on seeing the famous Monterey Bay Aquarium. It was... nice, I guess? We both agreed that the one at Bass Pro in Springfield is better! The crowds were terrible! The noise a roar! We did have a tastey lunch there while a big black pigeon sat on the railing and gave us an inspection through the whole meal. After we went for the famous Big Sur drive which lived up to all the hype. We were too busy enjoying it to take pictures.Read more

    Took a self driving Jaguar to the Alcatraz boat. The gardens there we lively. Not enough on the Indian occupation. Lots of burley baby gulls. Sea lions weren't happening back at the Pier but we had a hearty chowder lunch.Read more

    MISHA delivered a long monolog about his life and then we went to the concert. Here are pics of Misha (Castiel) and Rob (Loki/Gabriel/director). I had a great conversation with Rob about the motel room sets. It made me feel like I was back in art school and he got into the nitty gritty of directing in these spaces.     Urgent care... oh crap, its Covid.

    So, I'm getting a Covid test/Strep test here at the urgent care. Yay. 'm sitting here in my Emotional Support Demaon shirt Megan made me wear! I will update soon with results. On the upside, I don't feel too bad so I'm still participating in the con, I just take seats at the back. Meanwhile, Megan looks absolutely adorable. Today is her big day to meet with Mark Shepherd and Misha Collins. We had great fun at the Keroke gathering last night. I didnt sing on stage but I did from the audience and actually danced! An additional reason why my voice is ripped today. I felt really old though when an older dude got up to sing "Are you going to San Francisco" and NOBODY knew it or had heard it before, including the actors and musicians!!! Megan knew it, so I feel like I've done my job.Read more

    Megan was accidentally given a golden ticket wristband. She gave it back and as a thank-you for her honestly, they gave us 2nd row seats for the whole con. Which people pay $1000 to get! From these great seats, Megan is getting great photos.

    Pictures will follow! We are resting up. The drive wasn't horrible, just long with astonishing traffic. The Dodge Hornet I rented is an acceleration demon. Fun to drive if a bit scary at times. Hotel is nice but no laundry! I'm not willing to pay for the cleaning service. We could buy new clothes. Hotel says DO NOT park in the city, and Uber 1 way to one destination is 40+. We might just go for a no-park drive this evening and figure out BART. Every meal we eat is between $40-$100. Portions are big so we are sharing now. I know there are cheaper ways but if you can't park... maybe the hotel just wants us locked down and paying their prices. On the upside our room is very nice. Ours overlooks the atrium but there are public spaces looking over the bay and the ridiculous airport where planes approach and take off very close to the water. We find that very entertaining. Megan got me a Meet & Greet today with a minor character DJ Qualls, who is Garth on the show. I'm looking forward to it. I enjoy his character immensely--- he's the very nerdy hunter who becomes a well groomed cardigan-wearing werewolf.Read more

    Key learning: never rent a car from FOX. Tried to give me one with bad tires and awful seats and has charged me a partially refundable $380 above my already paid fee. I didn't even get the insurance. I did walk the lot and found a car with new tires, and also no license plate... just a new car paper tag taped to the front windshield. So, we'll.see how far that gets us! It's a dodge hornet. Had the most comfortable seats of the options too, which is to say they didn't suck. The air conditioner is awesome, so there is that.
    We had dinner last night at Panda Express. Had to go in because there was an overheated car stuck in the drive thru. But it's a DRY heat...

    Drove around some to see the lights, especially on the Sphere, which looks awesome. Spent the night with a friend-of-a-friend in a gated community. Nice lady. Heading out soon on a coffee quest, then on to MeowWolf and Zac Branagans Haunted Museum. Pictures will follow.    Read more
