    On cruise control

    6 de setembro, Espanha ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

    Embarkation day today!

    (Also my birthday!)

Travelled down to Southampton,  a very swift journey through security and we were on board.

Our main aim for today was to find our sea legs and explore the ship. This is the biggest cruise ship we've been on, and ended up doing 14,000 steps just exploring.

We had a bit of chill time by pool and a lovely soak in the hot tub. Later on we watched an Abba show and had dinner 😍

Did a quiz and got 10/10, but so did 6 other teams so didn't get a prize.

Needed an early night as very shattered from travelling and sensory overload.

  • I'm on a boat

    7 de setembro, Espanha ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

Had a lazy start to the morning as it's a sea day today whilst we travel to Spain.

The buffet is honestly incredible and very overwhelming, so trying to navigate what i want to eat is so tricky as there are so many options.
After a tasty breakfast we had a wander around the atrium area to check out the shops and bars.

It was a choppy old day at sea so spent some time on the top deck sunbathing and having some fresh air to stop the swaying.

I then did 2 dance classes - salsa and zumba, whilst Tom went to the gym.
Got ourselves glammed up for gala night, dinner, drinks and a show.
    8/10 on the quiz today
Silent disco this evening was brilliant !

Sad because robot bartender is broken 😢

    Excited to disembark tomorrow 🤗

  • Gijon a night like this

    8 de setembro, Espanha ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

Busy day today. We were excited to disembark in Gijon, Spain.

When we arrived, it was a bit drizzly and we were avoiding showers all day. It was around 18-20 degrees, not entirely what we were expecting in Spain!

We did a LOT of walking today, around 25,000 steps.
We had a wander around the old town, all the way up to the old military fort, into some churches and then into the town, before realising it must be a bank holiday or something as there weren't many shops open at all.

We did find a cafe called Cat Love and had the best coffee we've had so far (the cruise coffee isn't great).

We then did a longer big walk so Tom could see the football stadium (from the outside) 🙈. Close to the stadium was a lovely park where we saw red squirrels and random birds including parrots, chickens and emus 🐔 🦜

We walked back along the promenade which was really pretty and had lovely views of the beach and the church on the hill. We then had some tasty tapas before having another wander around the old town and finding some live music.

When we got back to the boat we realised the water park was open for the first time. Had a great time going down the slides despite not being particularly warm. We then warmed up in a hot tub overlooking the port for the sail away 🌊

Followed by a drag show, dinner, Karaoke (spectating) and a live band.

  • Ooh La La Rochelle

    9 de setembro, França ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

Today we arrived in La Rochelle, France. I have been practising my French on duolingo so I was excited to arrive in France.
We enjoyed having a stroll around the marina and a mooch around the arcade streets in the old town.

The architecture is really unusual with arches being on almost every street, so pretty with the light coloured stone across the city too. There was also a traditional market with all sorts of unusual delicacie.

We then found a lovely walk along the city walls which led to the beac and coast path. We did go on another very long walk as Tom wanted to visit the rugby stadium. Around 28,000 steps today!

We thought then we would stop for lunch but most places had stopped serving food! So we did some cafe hopping and had some tasty treats.

My reading and understanding French is certainly better than my speaking but I did manage to buy a fridge magnet and order some macarons in french, yippee !

It was lovely and warm today and all in all a very nice day.

Definitely was in need of a nap before the evening activities- comedy show, quiz (5/10 tonight), dinner, chilled drinks and Abba party 🥳

  • Bilbao bun

    10 de setembro, Espanha ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Swam across the Bay of Biscay again and docked in Bilbao today 🇪🇸 .
Both Gijon and La Rochelle were quite compact cities, however Bilbao is huge and we realised we probably weren't going to be able to see all the sights in one day, but we tried our best!

We had to navigate the metro today as the port is quite far away from the city centre.

When we arrived, we had a wander around the old town, before heading on a walk along the river. The heavens decided to open at this point, so we did a bit of cafe and shop hopping until it stopped. It was mad weather as 22 degrees but drizzly.

Had a tapas stop, and found the Guggenheim museum where there is a huge statue of a puppy which is made of flowers. We found our first miniature treasure today in a souvenir shop which was a mini Bilbao puppy.

We then carried along the river for Tom to spot the football stadium, before finding a park and gelato stop and walking back through the new town to the metro station.

Bilbao is an incredibly huge and busy city but we did enjoy strolling through the streets and admiring the architecture. Was really cool that you could spot the mountains from the labyrinth of streets.

Arrived back, quick nap, then a magic show (which was insanely cool), dinner and tropical party night 🌴

  • Motion of the Ocean

    11 de setembro, França ⋅ 🌬 17 °C

Sea day today, which was welcomed as we are both shattered today after 3 full on sightseeing days. However, a very choppy day crossing the Bay of Biscay again.

Had a lie in then a leisurely breakfast, and I went to a country dancing class which was fun.
Shortly after this we had lunch (feels like we are constantly being fed!). We had a chance to go to the pub for a drink which was nice as we've never been able to get a seat in there.

This afternoon we watched a cinema screening of Dirty Dancing, but it was also a theatre production with the cast dancing, singing and playing music along to the film which was really clever. Was a great way to while away the afternoon.

Dinner, drinks, quiz and an early night ready for our trip to Mont st Michel tomorrow.

  • Mont Saint Michel-ebrate good times🥳

    12 de setembro, França ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

A day to remember today at Mont St Michel. An early morning and bus transfer awaited us, but it was worth the trip to visit somewhere on the bucket list!

We were pleasantly surprised by the sun making an appearance as we'd been expecting 12 degrees but it was more like 22.

There was an option of a shuttle bus to get down to the mount itself but we decided to walk instead which was a beautiful meandering stroll along the bridge with incredible views. When we arrived we couldn't believe the crowds, we were sardines in the little streets, but was still lovely to wander around the picturesque cobbled streets and old-fashioned shops.

We decided we definitely wanted to visit the Abbey which did have a lengthy queue, but was worth it to get some of the best views and see the architecture of the Abbey. We were surprised by how much there was to see. We decided due to time constraints we would read about all the history later (which i need to make a note to self to actually do!)

We then walked up and down many streets, found a quick bite to eat and enjoyed just watching the world pass by. We then walked back along the bridge to the coach. It was a really scenic drive through cute little villages which was lovely.

This evening we had dinner and watched a Michael Jackson show which was surprisingly amazing!

    Back to Southampton tomorrow 😢
