    Arrived safely long trip. Taxi driver from airport nearly ran up the butt of the car in front twice. No need for alarm still alive. Picture posted is the door to our cute Villa for the night. Post more tomorrow when I’m a little more with it. Cathy Bell Watton and I walked this 30 minute straight line path to Praça do Comércio (Commerce Square) in Lisbon, Portugal on the Tigres river, trying to stay awake and get used to their time zone.Read more

    Duoro Valley - Wine Country

    Today was a 10hr day in the Duoro Valley where they make Port Wine. There are 32 Michelin Restaurants in Portugal 9 in the Duoro Valley. The photos don’t do it justice it’s amazing how they grow grapes in the hillsides. They don’t water the vines it’s the dew that gives them the water they need.Read more

    The picture of McDonalds is the only McDonalds in the world that cannot display the arches due to the historic building in which it is in. I also visited the most beautiful bookstore in the world situated in the historic center of Porto, known as Livraria Lello & IBrothers, which has more than a century of heritage.
    The bookstore has served as an inspiration to several writers and artists, being one of the most old ones in Europe, remaining with a dense story.    Read more

    Pena Palace, Sintra, CaboRoca & Cascais

    Anybody who loves a story would love this day tour just north of Lisbon. We went through Booking.com and chose the tour that happened to be run by SeeLisbon LDA. Our tour guide, Tiago, was amazing with a great knowledge of his local area and Portuguese history from the 5th to 20th century.
    First, we drove through Cabo Roca to Cascais, where the rich and famous live or vacation, like Ronaldo, considered Portugal's best ever soccer player.
    Then to Pena Palace a story Sintra, which is steeped in royal history and preserved when in 1910 the royal family was given 1 day to leave and turn over their entire estate to the State by the Republicans. The royals fled to the UK, and everything in Pena Palace remains as it was left the day they fled.    Read more

    One of the best places to watch the sun set on Lisbon City is in a park called Miradouro S. Pedro de Alcantara from. 6-8pm. Then, walk downhill through Barrio Alto's restaurants and cafes. We walked 20 minutes down to the Time Out Market, which has a great atmosphere.Read more

    Today we arrived in Lagos by train from Lisbon. Weather again is amazing had a walk around town and watched the world go by. Just sitting and having a drink at a bar with water views

    Lagos to Ponta Da Piedade

    Today started with an early morning walk to the pub watching Canberra vs Cronulla. Then to Beer & Co for the Liverpool v Everton English soccer game with our friends from last night. Later today, we did a boat trip along the Ponta da Piedade out to the Benagil Caves and there are a lot of them.     Tim and I decided to go for a walk this morning AFTER PANTHERS WON to look at the coast Amazing views and the walk is spectacular, I stopped for coffee and a Portuguese Tart (pastel de nata).

    Wine, Olympics and Friends

    The day began with a short drive to a UNESCO heritage site where we parked at a tiny town called Cully and walked up the mountain through the vineyards where the owners live in another tiny town called Epesses..
    After lunch, we went to the Olympic museum in Lausanne. This is the city where the modern Olympic movement was formed, led by Pierre de Coubertin. He founded the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1894 and was instrumental in organizing the first modern Olympic Games, which were held in Athens, Greece, in 1896.
    Then some souvenirs and a couple of drinks at the marina in ritzy, Ouchy before walking back to Pully for dinner with the Britton and friends from Nestlé, Ralph and Simone (Simi).    Read more

    Switzerland to Munich by train

    Today was an early start as we are off to Munich for the Oktoberfest where we meet up with Ryan. Train trip has been beautiful the greenery and hillsides and buildings along the way have been amazing.

    Today started off with us running into fellow Aussies, Marika and her son Fletcher, who own the My Gosh cafe in Mona Vale, at our hotel, so we had breakfast together. We then did the hop on hop off bus 3 different lines. Then off to Oktoberfest again, where we will be meeting our Aussie friends. Monday night is as packed as the weekend.     Picked up the hire car, a very nice Peugeot then headed to Luton to show Ryan where I spent the first 2yrs of my life before moving to Australia. We popped in to see my mums childhood friend Glenda, 70yrs of friendship. We popped into Cambridge and had a look at the University and the town very nice area so green. Tonight we head to football game in Norwich and staying here as well.Read more
