Mentawai Tribe

Rieccomi dopo tre giorni passati nella foresta pluviale, dove abbiamo passato del tempo con la tribu dei Mentawai.

Il primo giorno abbiamo fatto un lungo viaggio di 7 ore in traghetto x arrivare sull’isola di Siberut. Dopodichè abbiamo preso la canoa a motore e siamo risaliti lungo il fiume per 1 oretta e mezza, e poi abbiamo proseguito per un’ora a piedi camminando nella foresta e nel fango. Per camminare seguivamo dei pezzi di legno messi sul terreno così da avere un’elevazione da terra per evitare di sporcarsi tutti di fango, il quale in alcuni casi poteva arrivare fino ad oltre le ginocchia.
Infine in serata siamo arrivati alla casa (Uma) della tribu che ci ospitava e abbiamo cenato assieme allo sciamano, ascoltando le sue storie e le risposte alle nostre domande.

Il giorno dopo ci siamo svegliati presto a causa dei galli e dei maiali che facevano molto rumore, e in piu non avevamo dormito molto per via che eravamo sdraiati direttamente a terra sulle assi di legno senza cuscino ne niente per dormire.
Dopo aver fatto colazione siamo partiti per un giro nella giungla a caccia di scimmie e di jackfruits, mentre al pomeriggio siamo andati a cercare le piante medicinali e a cercare la frutta tipica del posto sugli alberi.

Mi aspettavo di vedere altre cose perchè il Raffi aveva fatto delle esperienze diverse e aveva visto di più della loro vita, ma è stato comunque molto bello.

Il terzo giorno siamo partiti presto dopo colazione per rifare la camminata nel fango, prendere la canoa a motore e rifarci altre 6 ore di traghetto.
Siamo tornati in serata a Padang dove sono andata a dormire presto dopo essermi preparata per la prossima destinazione.

Here I am again after three days spent in the rainforest, where we spent time with the Mentawai tribe.

The first day we took a long 7 hour ferry ride to get to the island of Siberut. Then we took the motorized canoe and went up the river for 1 and a half hours, and then continued for an hour on foot, walking in the forest and in the mud. To walk we followed pieces of wood placed on the ground so as to have an elevation from the ground to avoid getting all dirty with mud, which in some cases could reach up to our knees.
Finally in the evening we arrived at the house (Uma) of the tribe that was hosting us and had dinner together with the shaman, listening to his stories and the answers to our questions.

The next day we woke up early because of the roosters and pigs making a lot of noise, and also we hadn't slept much because we were lying directly on the floor on the wooden planks without a pillow or anything to sleep on.
After having breakfast we left for a tour in the jungle to hunt for monkeys and jackfruits, while in the afternoon we went to look for medicinal plants and look for typical local fruit on the trees.

I expected to see other things because Raffi had had different experiences and had seen more of their lives, but it was still very beautiful.

On the third day we left early after breakfast to do the mud walk again, take the motorized canoe and make another 6 hours on the ferry.
We returned to Padang in the evening where I went to sleep early after preparing for the next destinationもっと詳しく
