• It is a wee bit chilly in Rovaniemi

    30. november, Finland ⋅ 🌙 -3 °C

After a well deserved sleep in and with the sun not rising until 10am we wrapped ourselves up and ventured outside to experience the negative degrees temperatures. And boy was it chilly. We had a very brisk walk to the local cafe we wanted to try, only to discover it was fully booked and there was no way we were going to wait in the cold for a table. Luckily next door was a pizza and kebab place. While it really wouldn’t be somewhere we would chose as an overseas dining place but seeing reindeer kebabs and reindeer burgers on the menu we knew we had to try it out.
Reindeer meat is actually quite delicious and a very lean meat. We all opted for the reindeer kebabs (which are not like the kebabs at home) and really enjoyed them.
Once finished we rugged up again and braved the bitter cold to explore a little more of Rovaniemi. It isn’t a huge town and the town itself doesn’t have a lot of the Christmas vibe I was expecting. I guess with Santa’s village has all the Christmas vibe we will ever need. That is on the agenda for the next few days.
We had a brief wander through Lordi’s square, grabbed a few essentials from the local supermarket (always fun to check out) and headed but to relax for the afternoon. With the sun setting at 2pm heading home to relax was a great idea.
We have a Chasing the Northern Lights tour tonight at 7pm that could go for 8 hours so want to make sure we are rested and ready.
