  • Landungsbrücken-Elbe Beach-Grill Party

    September 20, 2025 in Germany ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

    Landungsbrücken

Our day began at Landungsbrücken, the meeting point for everyone — both the CPA and EBS students. The harbour was full of life, with ferries gliding across the Elbe and people enjoying the lively atmosphere. We took a cheerful group photo with the Monkey Man, which made everyone laugh and brought instant energy to the day. It was the perfect start to our Hamburg adventure and a wonderful way for both groups to bond.

    Elbe Beach

Our second stop was the beautiful Elbe Beach, where we enjoyed a relaxing time by the riverside. The scenery was amazing — golden sand, calm waves, and ships sailing by in the distance. We sat by the shore, had some drinks, and soaked in the peaceful atmosphere. It was such a refreshing break and gave us all a chance to chat, laugh, and enjoy the beauty of Hamburg together.

    Grill Party at Arvan’s House

In the evening, after our beach visit, we went to Arvan’s house for a lovely grill party hosted by his parents. The setting was warm and welcoming, filled with the smell of delicious grilled food and the happy chatter of everyone enjoying the moment. The students played some fun games at the park nearby, which brought lots of laughter and excitement.
It was a beautiful way to end the day — full of joy, togetherness, and appreciation. We’re truly grateful to Arvan’s family for their kindness and effort in making us feel so at home. The night was unforgettable, leaving us with lasting memories of friendship and fun.

🚌 Hamburg City Tour – Tourist Notes
    Some Landmarks
Hamburg is very proud of its gardens and green spaces.

Speicherstadt: World’s largest warehouse district, UNESCO World Heritage, over 100 years old. Once filled with coffee, tea, and spice warehouses—now home to museums and attractions.

Elbphilharmonie: Modern glass concert hall (2017), symbol of Hamburg’s mix of tradition and modernity.

Alster Lakes: Inner and Outer Alster, perfect for sailing, jogging, and waterside cafés.
Reeperbahn: Hamburg’s entertainment street, famous worldwide for music, nightlife, and theaters.

Town Hall (Rathaus): Majestic 19th-century building, seat of government, symbol of Hamburg’s independence.

    Gardens & Green Spaces
Hamburg is not only a port city but also one of Europe’s greenest cities, with parks and gardens woven into its urban life.

Planten un Blomen: A vast botanical garden and park in the city center, famous for its rose gardens, tropical greenhouses, Japanese Garden, and water-light concerts. We had an ice cream 🍨 here.

Stadtpark is Hamburg’s “Central Park,” with lakes, open-air concerts, and an observatory. We walked around and saw people jogging too Jenischpark is a landscaped park with historic mansions and art museums, overlooking the Elbe. Alsterpark has Green promenades along the lakes—perfect for walking and picnics. Hundreds of smaller parks and gardens are spread across neighborhoods, making Hamburg a true “city of parks and water.” we walked through some of the parks and in some woods.

One of their famous people, Helmut Schmidt (1918–2015), the former Chancellor of West Germany (1974-1982) and a Hamburg native, became just as famous for his personal habits as for his politics; he was a chain-smoker who lit up almost everywhere and was said to consume up to 100 cigarettes a day, often with a glass of his favorite sweet drink—whether cola, fruit juice, or sweetened tea—by his side, and yet he lived to the remarkable age of 96. Known for his sharp intellect and steady leadership during the Cold War, Schmidt’s ever-present cigarette and fondness for sugary beverages became part of his public image, and even after strict smoking bans in Germany he was famously granted exceptions, particularly in Hamburg where locals still recall him as both a statesman and a stubborn character who outlived his vices.

Hamburg's population is Nearly 2 million making it the 2nd largest city in Germany.
Their harbour is still called the “Gateway to the World,” one of Europe’s biggest ports.
HafenCity project transforming old docks into a modern urban district. Over 2,500 bridges, two lakes, many canals, and lush gardens everywhere.

  • EDU. ON WASTE MANAGEMENT

    September 24, 2025 in Germany ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

We learned that different types of plastic behave differently: some can be melted and reshaped, while others cannot. If plastic is not properly separated, it can release toxic chemicals into the environment when exposed to heat. Plastic waste must be separated not only by type but also by color before being recycled or discarded.

Plastics can be recycled into many useful products such as earrings, bags, and other creative items. However, when plastic breaks down, it often turns into microplastics, which cannot easily be removed from the environment.

Now that we understand how to recycle plastic and what it can be transformed into, we see the importance of being more careful in the future. Properly separating trash—especially different types of plastic—is essential.

We also learned about sorting waste into the grey bin and why it matters. These lessons are important because they not only help people in general but also protect animals from suffering or losing their lives due to plastic pollution.

Crown Prince Academy student and Esther Bejarano Schule in class discussions based on their trip to the MVR recycling center in Hamburg .
Students were grouped into 4 and had to reflect on these two questions.

    1. What did you learn in the last days regarding trash or plastic trash?
    2. Which information and inspiration have you drawn from these experiences which can be useful for our future cooperation or our future projects?

All 4 groups presented great ideas - talking about how dangerous microplastics are to humans and animals, plastic segregation and building recycling machines to turn plastics into useful products.

  • The Bunker

    September 26, 2025 in Ghana ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

We learned some of the following about this historical site:

The St. Pauli Green Bunker (Flak Tower IV)
History and Transformation. Original Structure: Massive WWII Flak Tower IV (Flakturm IV). Built in 1942, reportedly in less than 300 days, using forced labour. Served as an air raid shelter for up to 25,000 people. Still stands as an indestructible-looking concrete fortress; now a memorial to the victims of the Nazi regime and WWII.

The Green Transformation: A 5-story extension added to the top of the bunker to create the "Green Bunker." The project focuses on sustainability and urban ecology. The entire exterior of the extension is covered in greenery (thousands of plants, shrubs, and trees).

Access/Movement: The "Mountain Path" (Bergpfad) is the key feature for reaching the top. It’s a 560-meter-long circular outdoor ramp/staircase winding up the side. The views change as you ascend. (There’s also an elevator.)
    Current Usage & Culture

Rooftop Garden: The top level is a beautiful, free, public green oasis with panoramic views, open daily. The bunker is a vibrant cultural hub. Home to a famous nightclub (Uebel&Gefährlich), a climbing hall, studios, and event spaces like the Georg-Elser-Halle.

Hospitality: Includes a hotel (like REVERB by Hard Rock Hamburg), and restaurants/bars (like La Sala and KARO&PAUL).
    Key Views from the Top
The 360-degree view gives a clear perspective on several major Hamburg landmarks: The Millerntor-Stadion (FC St. Pauli’s home) and the massive Heiligengeistfeld event grounds (where the Hamburger Dom funfair is held). My photo of the stadium was taken from here. The Port of Hamburg and the cranes in the distance. The striking glass of the Elbphilharmonie concert hall. The spire of St. Michael's Church (Der Michel).

Excellent view over the adjacent St. Pauli, Reeperbahn (nightlife), and the creative Karolinenviertel districts.

  • A tour of Lüneburg's city

    September 27, 2025 in Ghana ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

Team Ghana and Esther Bejarano Schule teachers and students had the privilege to visit Lüneburg. Below is a little history of the city.
Lüneburg's history is defined by the rich salt deposits discovered there, which made the city a wealthy and powerful member of the Hanseatic League in the Middle Ages.
The city preserved its medieval Hanseatic architecture because it was spared damage in World War II. Key historical periods include its rise through salt mining, its loss of independence in the 18th century, its role as a Prussian garrison town, and its significant post-war role in hosting the trial for Belsen and Auschwitz perpetrators,

Lüneburg was fortunate to be spared from damage during WWII, preserving its historical medieval cityscape.

The Alter Kran, a historical crane at the former Ilmenau docks, was also used in the salt trade.

Today, Lüneburg is a growing town in North Germany with over 78,000 inhabitants and almost 4 million tourists every year.
After the tour, we enjoyed some Fries and a special Kebab. Later topped it up with some hot Cappuccino.
The tour to Lüneburg was worth it. Thanks to our tour guide Mr. Erik.

  • Trip to Lüneberg

    September 27, 2025 in Ghana ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

    *Visit to Lüneburg and Brunswick*

On the 27th of September 2025, we visited the historic towns of Lüneburg and Brunswick (Braunschweig) in Lower Saxony, Germany. Both towns have fascinating histories that reflect Germany’s rich cultural heritage.

Brunswick has a long and varied history dating back to the Middle Ages. It became an important trading center and was granted city status in the 12th century. Over the centuries, the city was ruled by various dukes and princes, including Henry the Lion, who played a significant role in the politics of the Holy Roman Empire. During the 18th century, Brunswick was rebuilt in the Baroque style and later developed into a cultural center. The establishment of institutions such as the Herzogliches (Ducal) Museum contributed to its cultural prominence.

Lüneburg, on the other hand, is a charming town with roots tracing back to the early Middle Ages. It was first settled by the Germanic tribe of the Saxons and became one of the most prosperous cities in the region due to its thriving salt trade. In the 12th century, it was granted city status and quickly grew into a wealthy center of commerce. By the 14th and 15th centuries, Lüneburg was among the wealthiest cities in northern Germany, supported by its powerful Salt Guild system.

Although the town suffered significant damage during the 16th and 17th centuries and was heavily bombed during World War II, it has since been beautifully rebuilt and restored. Today, Lüneburg is celebrated for its well-preserved historic architecture, including the Gothic-style St. Michael’s Church and the Renaissance-style Town Hall. The town is also home to several museums, such as the Blomberg Museum, which preserve and showcase its remarkable heritage.

Our visit provided a deep insight into the rich historical and cultural backgrounds of both towns, revealing how they have evolved from medieval trade centers into modern symbols of German history and resilience.

  • The Visit to Elbphilharmonie

    September 28, 2025 in Germany ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

    Elbphilharmonie Visit – Hamburg

During our visit to the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, I was truly amazed by its stunning design and atmosphere. The building beautifully combines modern glass architecture with an old brick foundation, making it one of the most impressive landmarks I have ever seen.

We rode through the tube, which is the longest curved escalator in Europe, leading us smoothly to the Plaza. From there, we enjoyed breathtaking panoramic views of Hamburg and the harbour. The dancing glass wall sparkled in the sunlight, reflecting the sky and river, giving the whole structure a sense of movement and life.

From the top, I watched as the bridge street below opened gracefully to let a ship pass, then closed again for pedestrians and cars to continue — a fascinating sight! We explored the shops around the Plaza, which were lively and inviting, filled with visitors and souvenirs.

Although we didn’t enter the concert hall, the experience was inspiring and memorable. The Elbphilharmonie truly represents the creativity, culture, and beauty of Hamburg.

  • The Return to Ghana

    September 30, 2025 in Ghana ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

Coming back to Ghana felt like closing one beautiful chapter and opening another filled with purpose. Our journey taught us more than we expected — it opened our eyes to how small actions can make a big difference in caring for our planet.

As we returned home, we carried not only memories but a renewed sense of responsibility — to live more sustainably, to rethink how we use and discard things, and to turn waste into something meaningful. We learned how plastics and paper, when properly managed, can be transformed rather than thrown away — how creativity can give them a second life and protect our environment.

Now, the lesson continues here at home. We want to share what we’ve seen and learned — to inspire others to recycle, to reduce waste, and to value every resource. Our return is not an end, but a beginning — a promise to build a cleaner, more thoughtful, and more sustainable community together.
