    Day 25: Årnäs / Långeudde

    September 21, 2024 in Sweden ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

This morning, my first view from the tent fell on the water and the fog, but about 15 minutes later I could see sunlight falling on my tent. Great! Then I got out of the tent and got everything ready. After my morning müsli and a hot shower, I paddled away happily and was happy that I could finally see far again. This was my first night on a campsite in Sweden during this tour, which was surprisingly full. The young woman at the reception was also astonished when I bought myself a "Kanelböller". Paddling immediately became much more fun. Last night, my Norwegian camping neighbour told me about his friend Joachim Larsson, who paddled from Portugal to Norway (see picture). OK, that's a statement, but I'm sticking to my goal... Then I'm the "wimp" one, even Freya Hoffmeister from Heide with her circumnavigation of Continental by kayak is way too big for me! But the more I experience, the more respect I have for such projects and achievements! Hats off! The best thing today was that I could finally see the landscape I was paddling past... It always looks a bit similar in the photos, but the reality is amazing! During my lunch break I met Jörg, who has been living in a "tiny house" at the Kinnekulle campsite for 2.5 years now, as have four other people. He talked really enthusiastically about his daily bathing and winter sauna sessions. Only on four weekends in the summerseason would it be really full. But you could always find an island where you could have some peace and quiet if you wanted. Unfortunately I didn't ask him what he was doing all the time.... I paddled on and enjoyed the afternoon sun by bathing in the sun, but then had to warm up again by paddling and put in a lot of effort, true to the motto: what I paddle today, I won't have to do tomorrow... Maybe I'll actually manage to reach the shelter in Sjötorp tomorrow. That's where the real Göta Canal begins... But let's see: tomorrow there's supposed to be more wind, even if it's offshore, which is good for me. But the last few kilometers here were pretty wavy today, even though there's supposedly no wind at all... Hopefully I can get out of here tomorrow...!Read more
