    Day - 1 Arrival Dominican Republic

    Hey Waddlers, it's the end of Day 1, and wanted to let you know how the travel day went. There are 3 words for today...traffic, lines and children....

    I left home at 5:00, and didn't get to the airport parking until 2.5 hours later. This is a 45 minute travel time. No worries I've got lots of time till boarding call. Breath... and be zen.

    Then come the lines for everything. No easy peasy boarding. Wait on line for customs in TO. Wait on line when I arrive in DR. Two hours to clear customs. Collect my bag and then wait on the bus 😞

    I'm actually totally good at this point, but remember, the third word of the day was "Children"

    Yep, didn't think this completely through. Great I got extra days off, but so didn't think of Easter family vacations. Lots of kids traveling with their parents in packs. They can't make a decision on their own and move in a herd down the middle of the isle. If Johnny drops his hat the whole herd stops. OMG, I can't walk that slow, nor did I ever remember Chris being a tow along child.

     Love you my son, you are the best. Elodie will be a great world traveler.

    Arrived at the hotel almost 3 hrs after landing in DR...again long day. My room was ready, but not as I requested. For those that have traveled with me in the past they will know I'm the Queen of ugrades. In this incident. I would have to wait until Sat to upgrade . And I would potentially loose the pool view. I skipped it to be close to the pool, beach and main restaurants. Location, location, location.

    Tomorrow is a new day. In the four questions of Passover, why should today be different than any other? My answer.. all inclusive, adults only.

    The property is lovely, my room is good and after a great meal with free pour wine I'm calling it a night. Sister, I'm beyond 2 glasses in. Oh, there is more to that story, but I'm heading to bed.

    Bottom line, I arrived alive and I have a whole week to zen out. Nite all.    Weiterlesen

    Day 1 - Arrival Con't

    So the words of yesterday were traffic, lines and children. After waiting in traffic and standing in many lines with children the nice crew of WestJet whisked me away to paradise. We "Swooped" in on a 737 twenty minutes early. Not that that mattered, remember lines....

    Apparently I wasn't the only one thinking getaway. There were several airlines parked waiting in line.    Weiterlesen

    Day 1 - The Room

    The TRS rooms don't disappoint. This property is 20 years old. One of the older TRS location. It was renovated in 2014, and is due for some updates. But still well appointed.

    But it now has a broken privacy latch thanks to me. Why do doors give me so much trouble. Remember the broken door latch fiasco Cuba? OMG, but I score a major upgrade for that one.

     I finished up with dinner and decided to chill on the balcony. The room has the feature where the AC shuts off when the balcony door is open. Energy saver, excellent. So I went outside and closed the door. Only to realize I'd locked myself out 😞 There is no door handle on the outside. Safety I suppose but go figure.

    Luckily my butler was still on duty when I messaged. Good thing I had my phone. It was glued to me as I "misplaced" it earlier. And the butler had to help me find it. Another story.

    Anywho, butler came to my immediate rescue. But, I had retired for the evening and put the privacy bar on. They had to break into the room. And that's how I have a broken door...lol.

    Day 2 - The Food

    Day two saw temps in the high 20s with a breeze. Perfecto.

    After my adventures of yesterday and calling it a night I slept. It was 6:30 before I woke and I didn't rise until 9:30. Dinner last night was at Helios, as was breakfast and lunch today. I promise there are more restaurants selections to come.

    Dinner was Polenta to start and then Surf and Turf skewers with mashed potatoes and sautéed veg. The beef was very good, not dry as I expected. Desert was three layer Chocolate Cake with raspberry colulis. Had to go for it. And the house merlot was very good. My waiter Daniel kept the glass half full at all times.

    Breakfast was a buffet so I went European. After all I didn't get there until 10 and lunch was around the corner. A selection of cheeses, breads, real butter and prosciutto. Cool milk on the side. Lunch was fresh, hot chicken, garlic shrimp and rice. Desert was chocolate chip cookies to go.

    I think I'll do some wandering to wear that off.    Weiterlesen

    Day 2 Around the Pool con't

    Nice pool area with lots of chairs and, my sister's favorite palopas. Tons more at the beach. All first come first serve. That's an early morning likely to get a beach spot. Maybe another day.

    It was breezy today. You can see the palms blowing at the beach. The water is 4 shades of blue. Absolutely gorgeous. There were a few boats tethered. And there were a few parasailors.

    Buy the time I reached the beach after lunch there was seaweed. But they do clear it each morning. It's still an amazing spot.    Weiterlesen

    Day 2 - Sumptouri Teppanyaki

    Ok as promised more food selection. Full disclosure, I have seen this style of cooking show several times. This time I was very disappointed. It was a poor experience all around.

    The waiter did not speak much English. When asked to explain dishes he glazed over the menu and then wanted your choice??

    There was no fancy cooking or fires shows like I've seen in other cooking shows. The cook made a heart of rice and tossed a few morsels at some loud patrons. More on that ..

    No bar service for me or the other 9 guests. But the loud duo of men seemed to run through 6 tequila shots each brought by the bar waiter. Their friends from another grill room kept dropping in. I got up and left the group to get a glass of wine from the bar. Only after did the in-room waiter take drink orders.

    He attempted to top up my glass with the wrong wine so I corrected his pour. He returned with the correct wine and wanted to just "add" it to the wrong wine he previously poured. Oh my, I corrected this pour and asked for new glass.

    Then there was a family group who basically dictated how things were cooked. They couldn't have pork, the beef had to be medium rare, the water had to be sparkling and heaven forbid you added ice to the glass. I love it when other people choose for me. This is why I enjoy dining alone ❤️

    It wasn't a good experience, for what amounts to stirfry. I did not put this restaurant on my repeat list. Here's hoping tomorrow's dining experience will be more on par for a 5 Star resort.    Weiterlesen

    Day 2 - Evening Lounging

    The day has come to an end and I've been lounging on the comfy couch. The evening is still warm. But tomorrow there could be scattered showers (25%) and the temp will dip to 28° with 75% humidity. That's kinda sticky. I'll head out in the morning, chance of rain will increase as the day goes on. Maybe I'll enjoy watching the showers from the balcony. They have great movie and TV channels.

    Day 3 - Rain

    So the weatherman predicted showers and 74% humidity for today. Well, it did rain twice this morning but not enough moisture to register in a rain gauge. Woohoo! Another great day in paradise.

    Breakfast was a strole to Capricio. Nice, quiet little restaurant. Buffet style with an omelet station. I had French toast with real honey. Check out the honey comb. I added bacon and hand carved prosciutto. So yummy. I'll go back tomorrow for sure.    Weiterlesen

    Day 3 - More Strolling

    On my stroll to breakfast I passed more of the property's great vegetation. This tree or bush was huge. I also passed by this lovely lady and then again this evening when she was lit up..

    In addition to the sites, I also found the gym. Like I'm going to use that on vacay. I didn't even pack yoga gear. Kinda wish I had, there is yoga on the beach each morning. Maybe next time.Weiterlesen

    Day 3 - Dinner

    Tonight was Italian. I'm so carbed out...

    This restaurant was a la cart and had a really nice antipasto bar. I started with Burrata, then Cannelloni and finished with Chocolate Cake again. Yum.

    There was also a mixologist making smoked drinks. He was awesome. Not only did he make the typical smoked beverages like an Old Fashion or Manhattan (whiskey), and the Negroni (gin). He was smoking martinis as well. Whisky, bourbon, gin and rum are all spirits that are complimented by smoking. The actual smoke in this demonstration was done using a smoke gun. Very cool.

    On the strole back I found "the Secret Pool" it's hidden away from the main area with several Bali beds and comfy chairs. It's open 24hrs. Who knew. I wandered through, but it was dark. I chatted with a waiter and it's available to only two club levels. I'm in. It's a book reading, shade day so heading there tomorrow. Up early to snag a bed. Pics on this tomorrow.    Weiterlesen

    Day 4 - Upset Weather

    Happy Easter everyone! Hope you are enjoying your long weekend.

    Today was an upset day. It was sunny, then rainy/ windy. I think the turn in weather cause my headache so I layed low. I had a late dinner reservation so that upset my stomach. Not a good day.

    Breakfast waa Eggs Benni at Capricio. Lunch was buffet at Helios. Dinner was french at La Boheme. The restaurant itself wasn't well appointed but the food was good. I had clam cream soup, chateaubriand and pecan profiterole with chocolate cream sauce. The best desert so far.

    Day 5 - Better Day

    Well, sad news today with the death of the Pope. I watched the coverage this morning. Conclave will occur in the next 15-20 days in the Sistine Chapel where I sat in 2023. Kinda cool.

    Today was a better day. Headache gone, humidity low and the sun was shining. Thought I would try the outside lounge for lunch. I sat and waited and waited and waited for a waiter so I left. Trusted Helios here I come. Then I remembered... Helios has Paella. Shoot too late I already have salmon. Paella tomorrow.

    All was good today until someone puked in the pool. Hahaha it was a mass exodus. It's going to be a rough night for somebody.

    Dinner is asian at Bamboo. The restaurant was surrounded by a garden and steam, lovely. Hard to capture at night, sorry. It also had tatami tables for groups. I had Sushi and Noodles to start then Chicken Pad Thai with Shrimp. No desert for me couldn't wait to get out of the restaurant.

    OMG every time the kitchen door opened there was this whistle. I couldn't stand it. Put a window in the freak'n door so staff can see traffic. Then a waiter drops a tray stand in front of a table with no apology. Ya know what, the five kids sitting two tables over made less noise than the staff. I noticed this trend at the French restaurant as well.

    There was this cool sign outside the restaurant. Again a little hard to shoot at night. I also saw the tennis courts and the shopping area. That warrants a trip back tomorrow.

    Day 6 - Not as Planned

    So today I totally didn't do anything I had planned yesterday...lol it's vacay.

    I didn't sleep well and was up early so I decided to do the "Secret Pool" and Bali beds today. Ahhh....
    I strolled over at 6:30 to get a spot. It was another fab day in paradise. 27° but the humidity was back. It is so peaceful there in the morning. People don't start to show up until 10, then they take off for lunch. I met some folks from Windsor. More on that...

    The pool water was so warm. The area is sheltered so the temp feels like 10° warmer than at the big pool.

    The pool also has several built in jacuzzis and a hot tub. The whole pool is tile with various colors of blue and these irredesent patch. Beautiful.    Weiterlesen

    Day 6 - The Windsor Peeps

    So, it's all the rage to bring floaties now. Who has the weight limit in their luggage. Anyway, earlier in the day I thought I saw a familiar floatie, but it had no ppl around so I waited.

    A group came back later so I strolled over to inquire. The group was from Windsor leaving tomorrow and they had a "Float-A".

    The story here is my sister saw one of these in Mexico. She inquired about it and the ppl were leaving for home so gave it to her. It now resides at her pool. Now we've tracked one to the DR.

    Day 6 - Not Feeling Steak

    Tonight was supposed to be the steakhouse, after lunch I just wasn't feeling it. I asked to change my reservation but didn't get a confirmation so I skipped and went to see if the hostess at the Italian restaurant could squeeze me in without a reservation. Done and done!

    Day 6 - Calling it a Day

    I'm chill'n on the lounge sofa watching a group from Edmonton play Sequence. They caught me up on the battle of Alberta. GO OILERS! Leafs were beating Ottawa earlier tonight, but don't know how that finished.

    They have the MLB network here, but everytime I turn it on I see soccer??? I'll get caught up on the Jays when I get home.

    Day 7 - The Sunrise

    Good morning Waddlers. Today I was up before the moon set (proof in the pictures) and the sun rose. I found a lounger at the beach and watched that big ball of fire rise out of the ocean. So cool.

    The first rays threw pretty in pink to the clouds. Then the colors became beautiful orange. Sunrise was 6:12 yesterday and it was right on time. I am amazed at how fast this event happens. In 9 minutes the sun was fully crested above the horizon. We only get so many trips around the sun. We should stop and marvel at a few.

    The water looked dark and the seaweed was rolling in. I tried to capture the seaweed within the waves. You can see some. The tractor hadn't been down the beach yet so the night seaweed was still hanging around. By the time I left he was out cleaning up.

    Day 7 - Finally Paella

    Finally I had Paella for lunch. Seafood with shrimp, mussles and clam strips. I usually eat indoors, the breeze and the birds get me. But today being the last day I braved it.

    I was doing really well. I had a great view of the water, the breeze wasn't to cool in the shade and tapping my feet seemed to keep the pigeons at bay... Until this french lady beside me decided to shoo one with a napkin. It flew right at me and I screamed. OMG then it kept coming back. I detest birds.Weiterlesen

    Day 8 - Heading Home

    It's the last day in paradise. I prepacked last night so I had an easy morning. Breakfast, tossed the last minute things in my bag and checked the list to make sure it didn't forget anything. A few more beach shots and I'm wrapping up.

    The butler came for my bags and I found my customary couch in the lobby lounge. A mimosa to end my fab trip. Off to the airport at 11:00. Flight was bumped by 30 minutes, no biggie. I hope to be home to the house by 9:00.    Weiterlesen
