  • Goa 🧝🏽‍♀️🎶🎧

    3.–14. feb. 2025, Indien ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

    Goa is Goa 🤩
    Goa is different.
    Goa is vibrant.
Goa is a mix of everything - of calmness and parties all night long 🥳, of locals, travelers and tourists, of artists and hippies.
Goa is for the older free spirits and younger backpackers.
Goa is somehow just coming home to like-minded souls 🙏🏽
Aaand: Goa is an easy start to India 🤭

Since my last time in 2019 a lot has changed, but also not really 🩵
People are trying to be more aware, more careful (?) about nature and also sustainable. Of course, there is still a loooong way to go, but you can now find bins 🗑️ all over, big advertisements stating to look after nature and avoid waste, and the streets are cleaner as well.
The cows and buffalos still eat plastic and waste 😖, but a lot of street dogs 🐾🐶🐕 are being cared for by NGO’s and they are mostly castrated and hence, less aggressive than they were years ago 😅!

We met and stayed with our friend Simon near Anjuna and connected with new friends who made our stay sooo so funny (grazie Tommy & Giulia 😂🤪!!) and ended up extending and extending our stay from one day and one party to the other being very lucky to just attend so many gigs of our favorite artists 🎧🎶💥💃🏻🕺🏻🕉️

We didn’t really visit many places 😝 but enjoyed more delicious local street food and the scooter drives 🛵😍 having just one daily fight being “ who is driving whom” 😂🤭😝😝💪🏽

  • Udaipur - the city of lakes 🛶

    15.–18. feb. 2025, Indien

After Goa Udaipur was the first “real” India destination 😉 (for Vic).
Udaipur is a nice and peaceful place in Rajasthan with beautiful palaces, stunning and mostly clean lakes, and a rich culture.

The views from more or less ALL rooftops (and there are a looot!) are simply breathtaking 🤩!
The city's overall charm, the romantic vibes (yes, also Indian couples showing off 👫🏾💙), lively markets, and delicious Rajasthani food 🤤🤤 made it a perfect mix of history, culture, and natural beauty and were the perfect start for our Rajasthan tour.

  • Kumbhalgarh Fort

    16. februar 2025, Indien ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

It is also known as the Great Wall of India and is a fortress on the westerly range of Aravalli Hills in Kumbhalgarh in the Rajsamand district of the Rajasthan state.

The wall of Kumbhalgarh is one of the longest continuous walls in the world, spanning 36 kilometers, making it I assume 😅 number 2 in the world after the Chinese one.

Situated ~84 km from Udaipur, it was quite a thing getting there without loosing 2 full days, so we finally opted for a private taxi, which made the ride there not less of a struggle 🤪..
The single-lane roads 🛣️ with some abnormal potholes 🚧 not only made the two-hour journey there quite adventurous, but also turned out to be a trigger 🫨 and therefore not quite so conducive for two migraine patients🤕🤕...
Vic was only able to enjoy the view and the tremendous power that this fort exudes to a limited extent, despite taking strong medication.

  • Bahubali Hills and Badi Lake

    17. februar 2025, Indien ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

We had to take two attempts to see the sunrise from Bahubali Hills on the outskirt of Udaipur….
The first attempt failed due to an apparently closed road (or the driver oversleeping...?) 🙄
Aaaand with me not being a morning person, you can imagine my mood 🫣 and the non-existing desire to give it another try the following day 😂😂
BUT..the second attempt the following day made the early wake-up call in the morning and the easy trek up the hill absolutely worth it!
Nature is such a beautie 🌄

  • Jaisalmer - the golden city

    18.–22. feb. 2025, Indien ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

The trip from Udaipur to Jaisalmer by sleeper night bus 🚌🛌 was something out of a horror movie 🥵😤😭🤬😱😱.. we managed to arrive ALIVE 🙏🏽, but thinking back… wow how stupid to even board that “thing” which basically didn’t have one single part that was not broken 😱😅🫣

    Buuut…
I wanted to go there sooo badly and Jaisalmer, or the "Golden City," was more than worth the ride!! It is like stepping into a living fairytale. 😍

Nestled in the heart of the Thar Desert, its stunning sandstone architecture glows a warm, golden hue under the sun. Wandering through its winding alleys, we found vibrant bazaars, ancient forts and intricate havelis - through which I only managed to find a way out thanks to my personal GPS - Victor 😂🥰
We simply loved this city and we would have loved to stay even a bit more … next time!

Aaah and the trip was topped by a night under the stars 🌃✨ in the desert - an experience that still today feels truly magical 🐪🌵🏜️🪵🔥🥰, see the separate pics!

  • Jaisalmer - desert trip 🌵🐪🏝️☀️

    18.–19. feb. 2025, Indien ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

    Wow wow 🥰

Spending a night LITERALLY “under the stars” in the desert was unforgettable. I have already done it in different locations such as Jordan, Morocco and Egypt and it never looses its magic ✨!!

After a camel ride that for me was a bit difficult to handle due to a “where is my saddle?!-moment” we arrived on our spot just a few km from the Pakistani border.
As a sunset lover I can definitely say that it hits you different in the desert 🥰 ..the absolute peace surrounding you.. the sky full of stars afterwards.. the aloneness 🙏🏽
It was a peaceful, surreal experience in the heart of the desert and after the bus ride to get to Jaisalmer 😂 we would have loved extending the stay to be honest..

  • Jodhpur - the blue city

    21.–23. feb. 2025, Indien ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

Blue 🔵💙 being my favorite color, Jodhpur of course, was a must-see for me 🙃 we arrived there quite relaxed by bus from Jaisalmer. Yeah, we had to do a short pitstop to get some broken tires fixed 😅😂 buuut they managed to do so without big trouble 😎 they know how or it happens to frequently 😝
The city - at least the blue part of it - reminded me a bit of Chefchaouen in Morocco. We stayed at Cosy Guesthouse a very hidden place 😅 - somewhere in the depths of the millions of small streets with even Google Maps giving up 😵‍💫😂😳😱, but which has a stunning view and where I had the best Eggplant 🍆 Masala of the whole trip 🤤🤤!!

  • Pushkar - the holy city

    23.–28. feb. 2025, Indien ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

Pushkar was somehow a must on our trip. We had heard so many positive things about this holy city and its sacred lake and colorful temples, but we have to admit that we did not really do much in Pushkar besides shopping, eating and just enjoying the time with friends from home we met there. 😄
After an initial “tourist shock” (yeah Pushkar has loads of artists from Europe and other countries that kind of live here for a few months and work on their jewelry or clothing stuff), we actually loved just wandering the vibrant (but due to Maha Shivratri also veeerrry loud) streets, exploring markets and buying souvenirs for us & loved ones in the different shops and just soaking in the spiritual vibe of this small city.
We will be back for sure 🙂

  • Jaipur - the pink city

    28. feb.–2. mar. 2025, Indien ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

The capital of Rajasthan is a vibrant blend of history and culture with a lot of somehow pinkish buildings 💗.
Multiple forts wait to be visited (we only did the really stunning Amber Fort as we were still amazed by Kumbalgarh), and the markets are colorful and vibrant as usual 😉 and were nice for further souvenir shopping 😅..hehehe
Hawa Mahal of course, was also beautiful, and so were the different colorful markets we strolled through. But the most beautiful sights for me were the truly amazing Panna Meena ka Kund (a 16th-century stepwell water storage 🤩🤩!) and the temple next to it.

We met my friend from university Sandeep there, who was visiting with friends and we truly had a good time exploring parts of the city together 🙏🏽💗

For Vic and me however, Jaipur - after the chilled vibes in Pushkar 🥰 - was a bit too much of a city vibe, and we mostly enjoyed really tasty food 🤤🤤 instead of doing much of sightseeing..

  • Taj Mahal 🕌 & Agra

    2.–5. mar. 2025, Indien ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

Agra was Vic‘s last stop before heading back home and it was definitely worth the detour.

The Taj Mahal is massive, absolutely breath-taking and has a magic all of its own. It radiates peace and bustle at the same time. We were deeply touched 🙏🏽and didn't really know why.
A wonderful experience and a perfect ending before Victor goes back 🛫🥹 and I continue towards Varanasi 🎒🤩.

Agra of course is not just the Taj Mahal even though the majority may only come for this mere experience. We enjoyed strolling through Sadar Bazar and Kinari Bazar and just walking through the streets with no real clue on where to go 😆 and as a final struggle I finally had my parcel 📦 sent 🤪😅😅 and I must say, the experience was way better than 6 yrs ago where it took me 7(!) hours 🙄🫣

  • Orchha - a glimpse into local life

    5.–7. mar. 2025, Indien ⋅ 🌙 20 °C

Never actively planned to come this way, but well, here I was in a small family house in a small village attached to Orchha (I tried to remember the name, but I failed and even Google has its problems in finding the proper name 😅😆) after Alex, a Dutch fellow backpacker, told me to have a look into this project called „friends of Orchha.
The project tries to connect local families to tourists and increase their income through this homestay service.

Exploring Orchha Fort, a majestic 16th-century complex with grand palaces, temples, and courtyards, felt like stepping back in time. From the vibrant murals of Raja Mahal to the grand arches of Jahangir Mahal, every corner told a story. The fort’s mix of Rajput and Mughal architecture, set against the backdrop of the Betwa River, made it an experience I would not wanna miss 🙏🏽 - even if it is was quite a detour from my initial plan 🤗

Raja Mahal – The royal residence, known for its beautiful murals and hidden chambers

Jahangir Mahal – Built to honor Mughal Emperor Jahangir’s visit, featuring grand Mughal-Rajput architecture.

  • Varanasi - the city of death 1/2

    8.–13. mar. 2025, Indien ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

    V A R A N A S I 😮‍💨
    So spiritual.
    So much energy.
    So loud and buzzing
    So different.
    So dirty.
    So intense.
So beautiful and crazy at the same time.

Nothing can prepare you for Varanasi.
    This is for sure 😅
This city pulses with ancient energy. The Ganges, the ghats, the burning rituals—they all collide in a powerful, raw experience.
I was not prepared to walk along the Ghat and just walk by a 🔥 and only realize after a bit that was looking at in awe (I love fire, so for those who know me it is totally normal that I stare at bonfires), was actually a person that was having his last ritual. I am totally honest, I stayed for almost two hours.. unable to move…and watched the whole scene & rituals in silent amazement and simultaneous calm and respect for the dead, that were coming one after the other.

    Some facts:
    - only male family members allowed
    - it does not smell as we would imagine 🤔
    - a body doesn’t burn quickly and if the weight of the wood 🪵🪵 on top of it is not enough, the torso will eventually move to a sitting position 😳
    - dying in Varanasi and being burned there is the only and direct way to the Nirvana/Moksha and hence, no more reincarnation.

The devotion in Varanasi is true and can also be experienced every night as the sun sets during the Ganga Aarti. What a powerful thing!

Varanasi doesn’t just capture your senses—it sears them into memory and everything I saw and experienced stayed for a long time in my head..

But one thing is for sure, my first Ganga dip has to wait…NOTHING would make me enter the water there 😱😳

  • Rishikesh - a dream come true 🤩

    12.–24. mar. 2025, Indien ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Rishikesh was an unforgettable experience for me 🥰💙😅!! It is a place where spirituality, adventure and natural beauty effortlessly merge. The very moment I arrived, I was instantly captivated by the serenity of the Ganges River and the majestic mountains surrounding the town - even though getting to “the other side” to Laxman Jhula, was a 2hr-never-ending-story 😅😂😂 which required a loot of my patience 😝
The atmosphere here was so peaceful, inviting reflection and connection with oneself, but also just chill. Aaah…how I loved sitting in one of the hundreds of rooftops overlooking the river and simply do nothing 🥰
The amount of locals & travelers practicing yoga on the banks of the Ganges added a peaceful, spiritual vibe to the place. I immersed myself in the morning and evening Ganga Aarti, and also did a 🧘🏻‍♀️ 6day- Yoga and Ayurveda retreat myself to finish my travel.

Rishikesh but especially the mountains and surroundings which I explored on the 🛵 touched my soul deeply. Some trekking around the area revealed hidden gems, from peaceful waterfalls to scenic viewpoints 😍🤩!! Rishikesh left me with a sense of inner peace and a deeper connection to nature, making it a truly transformative journey.
I waited for so long to get here, and now that I was, I cannot wait to come back 🙏🏽💙

    13. marts 2025, Indien ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

    Wow 😳😅😅😂🤩🤗

Holi, the festival of colors, which is REALLY celebrated with unmatched fervor and joy in this spiritual hub - by young and old!!

I kind of “escaped” Varanasi for a more chill version, but hey 😅 Rishikesh knows how to celebrate, too 😂😂
A truly unforgettable (and mostly positive) experience with an explosion of colors…aaand water!
Hahahah even the old ladies waiting on the rooftops to soak the passers-by 💦🪣🔫🪣😂😂

…Holi ultimately led to my first Ganga dip 🙌🏽🙏🏽

  • Ticino - (almost) back home 🌳🌲🏡

    24.–28. mar. 2025, Schweiz ⋅ ⛅ 8 °C

And so I am back…mixed feelings of course.. happy to see my loved ones and sad that my happy travel time is over…
these two months went by like NOTHING and still, at the same time I was able to explore so soo much and I am beyond grateful for being able to do so 🙏🏽 and also proud about myself for “still” doing this 😝 but hey, in the end, this is exactly what you would expect from a happy hippie 🧝🏽‍♀️🦄, no? 🤗

Ouff, but where there signs I should just stay in Rishikesh? A looot 😅😂😂

    1. My flight from Dehradun to Delhi being delayed for 30’ resulting in almost too little transit time for my final flight and hence, taking the decision to take a private taxi from Rishikesh to Delhi in the very early hours 🥱🥱 before the actual flight to Milan
…”but hey, no prob.. I can sleep in the car”

    2. The taxi driver asking me at almost midnight to wake him up at 3 am to make sure he makes it on time to Laxman Jhula (the part I was living in Rishikesh) for 4 am.. resulting in me not sleeping at all
…”but hey, no prob.. I can sleep in the car”

    3. The taxi driver coming almost 20’ late while I am freaking out outside alone on the street and him not answering my calls, making sure the level of Adrenalin would definitely NOT make me sleep.
And then him driving like he is the the fast’n’furious driver himself 😳😱
…”but hey, no prob.. I can sleep in the car” ?!? WTF

    4. The guy at the checkin counter asking me if he could change my seat “to a much better one to also allow a couple to sit together” - it WAS NOT!!! It was a nightmare.
I was placed in the front between two rows of a family traveling with 3 (!) kids all under 3 (!!!), that not only were screaming the whole flight (for pleasure not for aching ears believe me) and listening loudly on the phone to any kind of Indian kids songs, no the one sitting directly next to me would constantly hit me with its small feet in the thighs and belly or try to take the cover from my face that I was actually using to hide myself and distract me from the urge to kill somebody 🔪🩸.
    Yeah, it was this bad.
And the parents made it worse by just ignoring EVERYBODY around them and also the pissed stares and comments - this took disrespect to a whole new level !!

After my horrible flight back - I would have never imagined I would actually one day long for a stop-over instead of a direct one (!!) - I was so so happy I was picked up at Malpensa airport 🥰 and did not have to continue this sleep-deprived journey with the train 😅🥱😤😵‍💫😵‍💫🥱

I enjoyed my last free days with Vic and Basil 🐕‍🦺 and just doing nothing but forest walks and enjoying the silence and the beautiful nature we do have here in Switzerland 💚

I am back - but Mama India, see you again 🥹!
