Day 15 - Renmark to Wentworth

Not so cold today but wet wet wet.

Up and on the road by about 9am. Our first crossing of the Murray River was immediate after we departed the caravan park.

A lot further up the road we had our second crossing of the river.

Our original plan was to head to a free camp at a place called Pooncarie. The continual drizzle dampened our enthusiasm for a free camp where we’d have no dry cooking facilities.

The road between Renmark and Wentworth, left a lot to be desired. We bounced around continuously just about all the way. Not far out of Wentworth we spotted a road sign asking us to slow because of a rough surface.

Well, the expletive over the 2 way by an unnamed driver was blood curdling…….it was in fact the smoothest part of the whole journey.

By general consensus. we pulled into Wentworth and managed to secure 4 sites at the Willow Bend Caravan Park. That was just after lunch. Still drizzling.

We hit the camp kitchen. The girls made some great toasted sandwiches and i made another batch of mulled wine. Perfect way to sit in the camp kitchen while it rains around us. 5 played games, one slept and one composed this log.

The significance of Wentworth is the junction of Australia’s 2 mightiest rivers…..The Darling and the Murray. (The image shows this perfectly).

We stayed in the camp kitchen all day, still playing games, watching the footy, then cooking our great pizzas on Grahams pizza bases.
