Day 17 - Broken Hill

It’s great waking up and not having to pack away.

Today was sightseeing

Our first port of call was the Pro Hart Gallery. I didn’t know much about this iconic Australian until today. Strangely I found myself sitting in one of the theatre chairs, glued to the TV watching the biography of his life, while everyone walked around checking out the abundance of displays. Gail
Bought a few souvenirs.

What an incredibly talented fella. May have something to do with him being a Marist boy.

Next stop was Bells Milk Bar, the oldest in Australia. Wow, did it have some amazing home and kitchen artefacts. Whilst it was only half 11, a sample of their fare was a welcome early lunch. The staff even brought out snacks for the dogs.

The big one for the day was the Royal Flying Doctor Service Museum. The foresight and passion of John Flynn is now a daily service helping thousands of Australians.

From there we drove to the centre of town for a walk up the Main Street. A bit of shopping and of course we had to have a drink at The Palace Hotel……made famous by the movie Priscilla Queen of the Dessert. Didn’t really like the frocks on sale though.

A short drive out of town took us to the Living Desert Sculptures which were an impressive sight against the afternoon sun.

Then it was back to the vans for another pre prepared spag bol, a reflection on the days sightseeing, a quiet drink then an early retirement.Read more
